Do you need a Power of Attorney? A power of attorney is a document that allows you to name another person to act on your behalf with respect to financial matters. You can only create a power of attorney while you have capacity. If you become incapacitated and you don't have a power of attorney, you may need to go through an expensive court proceeding called a conservatorship to have someone appointed.
