Regardless of how well your child brushes and flosses, it is not always possible to remove food/debris from the grooves and pits of certain teeth. Sealants can help with this problem by sealing out food/debris from these surfaces, which can greatly reduce the risk of dental cavities. Sealants are a thin plastic coating that are placed over the biting surfaces of your child’s back teeth, which tend to be more susceptible to dental cavities (these teeth have certain grooves and pits that cause food/debris to collect more easily, and children usually don’t brush their back teeth as well as well as their front teeth, which creates the perfect storm for cavities to form). Many scientific studies have been performed on sealants and their ability to help reduce dental cavities, which show that they work!

What to do if your child has a loose tooth. 🦷
There are many creative in ways to pull loose baby teeth. It is important that the tooth be removed only when its ready and in a safe manner.
If your child is fine with their wiggly tooth and rather it be left alone, that is fine. Encourage them to move the tooth with their fingertips or tongue until it comes out on its own. Your child will experience less pain and bleeding.
However, if your child is uncomfortable and would like your help, start by gently touching the tooth. If it barely wiggles or if your child feels pain, the tooth is still rooted and not ready to be removed. On the other hand, if the tooth is very loose, simply use a tissue to grab the tooth and squeeze. The tooth should easily fall out and have minimal, to no bleeding.
If your child is experiencing wiggly teeth after a fall or face injury, you should call your Baker Pediatric Dental Care. The root might not have been quite ready to lose the tooth and there may be a need for intervention from a pediatric dentist.
Wishing you and your family, whether near or far, a very Happy Thanksgiving. 🦃
Did you know? Beaver teeth are orange. Beavers have long incisors that get their orange color from an iron-rich protective coating of enamel. Their teeth grow continuously throughout their life, but daily use helps trim them down. #fridayfacts

Have a wonderful holiday season from all of us at Baker Pediatric Dentistry.
Wishing you and yours a safe, healthy, and prosperous new year! 🥳
It was my daughter’s first visit to the dentist today and Dr. Baker, Miriam, and the office staff made it a great experience for us! We had to wait outside for a bit (due to social distancing) but once we were inside they took great care of us. They let my daughter choose a show, explained each procedure to her, and even let her get prize from the treasure chest. Dr. Baker thoroughly and clearly walked through his thoughts with me at the end, which I really appreciated. As we were leaving my 2 year old said “I want to do it again!” #firstvisit #happypatient #testimonialtuesday
