Lincoln County Emergency Management February 4 at 6:24 AM · WINTER WEATHER UPDATE: There is both a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY and a WINTER STORM WATCH in effect for Lincoln County. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from noon today through midnight tonight. This system begins as rain around noon today, changing over to snow around 4:00 PM with the snow lasting through about 2:00 AM tomorrow. Snowfall amounts of 1" or less are expected, but there is also a freezing rain component. Freezing rain is likely, beginning around 7:00 PM and lasting through 2:00 AM tomorrow, with a light glaze expected as a result. A Winter Storm Watch is also in effect, from 6:00 AM Wednesday through 6:00 AM Thursday. This is a snow event, with 5" of snowfall (perhaps as much as 6" in some locations) expected by the time the system clears our area. Light snow may begin as early as 8:00 AM or earlier on Wednesday, with snowfall rates increasing from roughly noon Wednesday through 11:00 PM Wednesday night. Snowfall rates decrease around midnight Wednesday, and precipitation should end around 5:00 AM Thursday. #SeeSnowDriveSlow #LetsBeCarefulOutThere
Lincoln County Emergency Management January 16 at 8:52 PM · FRIDAY'S WINTER WEATHER UPDATE: Thanks for sticking with us! We know the forecast has changed frequently, as we're doing our best to keep everyone as up-to-date as we can. Here is the latest from the National Weather Service, as of their 2:00 PM conference call/webinar. Overall, we are still looking at 1.5”-2.0” of snow/sleet accumulation and from .1”-.25” of ice accretion by the time the temperatures begin to warm above freezing Friday evening. The primary concern is travel impact. Quoting here from the NWS, “Travel will likely be hazardous through the afternoon and into the evening with primary impacts to the evening commute.” Timeline: Accumulating snow should begin in Lincoln County around 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM Friday, with possibly a few flurries beginning as early as 6:00 AM. Sometime around noon or 1:00 PM we will start to see a transition to sleet/freezing rain, which will persist until roughly 4:00 PM at which time we’ll change to just freezing rain. From that point, freezing rain will continue into the evening until, sometime around 9:00 PM, we start to see all rain as the temperature warms to above the freezing mark. Sustained winds of 10 – 15 mph are in the forecast for Saturday, with gusts in the 25 – 30 mph range. This combination of saturated ground, (more) rain, possible ice accretion, and high winds may result in power outages. #LetsBeCarefulOutThere
