🚨REVISED GRADUATION🚨
Seniors and Senior Parents,
Over the last few days there has been many discussions about graduation options due to the amended Safer at Home declaration from Governor Ivey. After extensive planning and coordination with multiple agencies, a decision to host a voluntary, non-traditional graduation ceremony has been set.
Option one will take place on Thursday, May 21st at the Charles E. Bailey Field and option two will be the original plan in the BRHS auditorium on Friday, May 22nd.
The addition of option one could not be possible without the collaborative efforts of the Alexander City Police Department, Alexander City Recreational Department, Mayor Spraggins, and the staff from the Alexander City Schools central office.
With the safety of seniors, parents, staff, and family members being our top priority, option one at the football field will have strict guidelines very similar to option two. We will graduate the Senior Class of 2020 in two separate ceremonies consisting of 100 seniors in each group with different time slots.
The first ceremony will start at 5:00 pm and the second at 7:30 pm on Thursday, May 21st. In the event of rain, we will use option two with graduation in the auditorium with the same procedures that were announced last Thursday afternoon. There will be NO make-up for option one at the football field.
The following procedures for option one at the football field will be enforced:
1. All family members will be required to wear PPE (masks). With this event being the first public gathering in Alexander City, it is imperative that we take precautions to protect each other, therefore guest will not be allowed in the ceremony without appropriate masks.
2. Social distancing will be enforced during the ceremony, as well as entering and exiting the stadium for both seniors and family members.
3. Both non-traditional graduation options are voluntary. If not participating, the rental gown must be returned to BRHS by 12:00 on Thursday, May 21st. Seniors may keep the cap.
4. Each senior may only have six family members attending. No exceptions.
5. A maximum of two vehicles per family, with the senior being in one of the two, will be strictly enforced by ACPD.
6. There will be no drop offs.
7. Traffic will be one way, coming into the Sportsplex off of Elkahatchee Road. No one will be allowed to enter from Highway 22. When leaving, you must exit the Sportsplex onto Highway 22.
8. Parking will be in Lot A and Lot B.
9. Do not come early and sit in the parking lot for the second ceremony. It is essential that we clear the parking lot from the first ceremony before the next group enters.
10. You must leave the Sportsplex parking lots as soon as the ceremony is over.
11. All family members must enter the pass gate as a group. The family group will be counted and checked off at the pass gate. Small children will be counted as one family member. If family members have to wait for additional guests, they will be asked to go to a holding area until all members of the party arrive. Please arrive with all members as you approach the gate.
12. No one will be allowed into the Stadium unless they are with the rest of their group.
13. The pass gate will be opened at 4:30 for the first group of seniors.
14. The entire home side will be marked to enforce a six-foot social distancing between groups. No one will be allowed on visiting side of stadium or on the field.
15. Once the family groups are checked off, they will be ushered by members of the recreational department to a designated seating area to sit. There will be no preferential seating.
16. The senior will directly report in dress code with cap and gown to their designated gate. Depending on last name, it will either be the front home ticket gate or the visiting ticket gate near the north end zone.
17. Seniors will report to their advisor to be checked off for attendance and dress code.
18. No parents or family members will be allowed at the staging area for seniors at the two ticket gates.
19. The actual ceremony will be non-traditional in nature. The shortened ceremony will honor our seniors as allowed under the current health orders and procedures established by Alexander City Schools. Each program will last approximately 30 minutes.
20. At 5:00 pm, the seniors will begin their pomp and circumstance march observing appropriate social distancing.
21. Sequence of events:
▪ Welcome, review of the process, and introduction of special guests
o Salutatorian and Valedictorian speeches
o Seniors called to receive diplomas
▪ Seniors will come to Dr. Wilkinson and pick up their diploma from the table. There will be no handshake but will have a pause for a photo.
o After the photo, the senior will move their own tassel.
o Instead of returning to their seat, they will walk straight to the south endzone to a designated area to stand until all seniors have completed the process.
o During this phase, we do expect our family members to show the class and pride that all of our graduations are known for in the state. We asked that you hold your applause until Dr. Wilkinson comes back to the podium.
o The endzone will be marked for appropriate social distancing.
o Once we have all of the seniors in the south endzone, Dr. Wilkinson will present the “graduated” senior class of 2020 and the crowd may cheer and applause.
o The seniors will do the Alma Mater. Then toss their caps.
o The seniors will be ushered off the field by BRHS Faculty.
o Seniors will drop their rental gowns in boxes and be checked off.
o Seniors will then pick up their senior packets that include diploma, transcripts, etc…
o Seniors will exit to the parking lots through the gate on the road coming from the field house.
o No senior will be allowed in the stands.
o Absolutely no family members on the field.
o Once the seniors have cleared the end zone, parents will be ushered by rows out of the stadium to the parking lot.
o All family members will be asked to leave the stadium area immediately by the ACPD.
o NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO STAY IN THE STADIUM OR PARKING LOT FOR THE NEXT GRADUATION. ALL MUST LEAVE.
22. No balloons or airhorns will be allowed. Violators will be asked to leave the stadium.
23. We strongly encourage that babies and small children NOT attend this graduation for their own protection.
24. The same procedures will be used for the 7:30 PM graduation. Gates will open at 7:00 PM.
25. There will be NO GRADUATION PRACTICE.
26. Seniors will receive more detailed information in their emails in the coming days. Each senior is expected to know when and what gate to report to for their graduation.
27. Seniors who are late will not participate.
Please check your email for your scheduled times.
