City of Port Orange Celebrates Grand Opening Of Riverwalk Park With A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony On Saturday, November 4th
Port Orange, FL…The City of Port Orange will commemorate the completion of Riverwalk Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the park site, 3431 S. Ridgewood Ave, on Saturday, November 4th at 4:30 pm. The event will be part of the 150th Anniversary celebration of the City’s founding, which will include a variety of activities for the community that will take place at the same location.
Riverwalk Park consists of approximately 10 acres and built a few blocks north of Dunlawton Avenue, which was part of the City’s plan to provide a park for its community along the Halifax River. The City partnered with the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND), Volusia ECHO, A.G. Pifer Construction Co., Inc., Saboungi Construction, Inc., and Dredging & Marine Consultants, LLC, as the design engineer.
The north end of Riverwalk Park, broke ground in June 2015 and was completed in February 2016. It consists of a new restroom/concession building, a kayak, canoe and stand up paddle board launch, a new fishing pier, a timber bridge, a trail way, landscaping and lighting. The southern end of the park, which commenced in August 2016, includes a restroom/concession building, multiple parking areas, a trail way, a playground, a splash park, multiple pavilions,
event lawn, seawall promenade and iconic mound. This phase was completed in October of this year.
“The Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) is proud to be able to partner with the City of Port Orange in the development of its waterfront property,” said Commissioner Susanne McCabe for the Volusia County Florida Inland Navigation District. “Riverwalk Park is an example of what is possible when we all work together to provide a top-notch waterfront facility for residents and visitors of Florida.”
“The Volusia ECHO program is proud to help fund the City of Port Orange on the Riverwalk Park Project,” said Damien Richards, Chair, Volusia ECHO Advisory Board. “The Volusia ECHO program provided grant funding for the new restroom facility, playground and splashpad using taxpayer dollars. We are pleased to be part of providing a family friendly waterfront facility for all residents and visitors to Volusia County. This type of project captures the spirit of what the Volusia ECHO program is all about, enhancing the quality of life of Volusia County’s residents.”
"The opening of Riverwalk Park has been a dream that was a long time coming,” said City of Port Orange Mayor, Don Burnette. “The vision of giving our citizens multiple ways to relax and enjoy the river has been an old and ageless dream, but now it is a new reality in Port Orange! And this is just the beginning!"
From 3 – 7 pm, festivities for the 150th Anniversary will include food, live music, children’s games and activities, historic presentations and fireworks. Additionally, at 3:15 pm, QLH, a Mead & Hunt Company and the Volusia County School Board will host an award ceremony for the 2nd Annual Stem Solutions by Students, a County-wide contest where high school students submit solutions to municipal challenges using Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) processes.
