“Woe to you, scholars of the law! You have taken away the key of knowledge. You yourselves did not enter and you stopped those trying to enter.” Luke 11:52 "The saints are the best examples of those who have penetrated the deep mysteries of God’s life. Through their life of prayer and faith they came to know God on a profound level. Many of these great saints have left us beautiful writings and a powerful witness of the hidden but revealed mysteries of the inner life of God. Reflect, today, upon whether or not you have taken the “key of knowledge” and opened the mysteries of God through your life of faith and prayer. Recommit yourself to seeking God in your daily personal prayer and to seek all that He desires to reveal to you. 'Lord, help me to seek You through a life of daily prayer. In that life of prayer, draw me into a deep relationship with You, revealing to me all that You are and all that life is about. Jesus, I trust in You.'" catholic daily reflections

November 4, 2020 Daily Mass~Memorial of Saint Charles Borromeo, bishop Reading 1 PHIL 2:12-18 Responsorial Psalm PS 27:1, 4, 13-14 R. The Lord is my light and my salvation. November 3, 2020~Tuesday of the Thirty-First Week in Ordinary Time "Jesus extends an invitation to each of us through today’s parable. All is prepared, the only thing left is for us to submit our RSVP. What are being invited to? The heavenly banquet, the Kingdom of God. The call to live in joy, the kind of joy that can only come from drawing close to the Lord, is freely given, and we are free to choose to accept it or reject it. As the parable suggests, there are some who will make excuses, seemingly preoccupied with other matters. Are there distractions or preoccupations which hinder us from accepting God’s invitation? If the call to follow Christ is a daily occurrence, and in some way, it is, then every day we have the opportunity to recommit to God, to say “yes!” By being receptive to God’s invitation and his path for our lives, by accepting it with an open heart, we are saying “yes” to the Kingdom of God, both a future and present reality. Today, consider reflecting on what it means for you to accept this invitation. What does saying “yes” to God mean in your life? What other invitations might need to decline as a result? Prayer: Lord, I thank you for loving me and offering me a place at your table. Bestow on me the grace needed to fully commit to you, to accept your invitation. Gift me with the strength to remain steadfast in my resolve so nothing may deter me or distract me from following you. May my actions be guided by your Holy Spirit so I may one day be counted among your honored guests in the heavenly banquet. Amen." -Andres Rivera, SBD Seminarian

January 7, 2021~Thursday after Epiphany Reflection of the day: In a time when division, unrest, and even violence have become commonplace in society, we need to allow the Word of God to rest in us, so we may not only listen to it but allow the Word to shape our attitude and actions. In today’s first reading John urges us to adhere to the commandment of love, timely advice. “This is the commandment we have from him [God]: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.” How we treat each other speaks to how we love God. It is very clear: If we love God then we must love and respect each other. Period. We can disagree, seek out justice or change, but adding to pain, suffering, violence, unrest is not a loving response. Genuine love is tested in the trials and conflicts found in our families, neighborhoods, and even in the national and global spheres. How do we respond? Do we choose to act in a way that leads to justice, healing, and peace? Do we love one another the way that God loves us? If it seems too difficult to do so, pray with confidence to God so the Spirit of the Lord may come upon you and give you the grace to overcome the obstacles in the way.
