We love using our ultrasound.. We had a new client come in today with her cat- straining to urinate and blood noted. We put the probe on the belly and found the problem- several bladder stones (circled in yellow)- we know they are stones because on an ultrasound stones cast a shadow (see arrows). We were able to obtain a urine sample to send to the lab for further information while also able to institute proper dietary management to hopefully dissolve the stone to avoid surgery. We've got a little update on Togo this evening. First of all, THANK YOU! You continue to amaze us with your generosity and we truly can't thank you enough. You all saved this guy! That's all there is to it.
What started out as an injured dog being found on the side of the road turned into a dog that had a blockage from eating a plastic container full of someone's leftovers. If this guy hadn't been hit, then found and gone to the ER vet for his injuries, his foreign bodies in his stomach would've likely never been seen on an x-ray. He could've ended up laying down somewhere and dying a slow excruciating death from that blockage. He could've even just been picked up as a stray and suffered for days before the shelter realized there was anything wrong inside. We truly believe everything happens for a reason. We definitely wish he'd never been hit by a car, but the alternative at this point would've been a certain death.
Good news is, he's going to be ok! His lacerations have been stapled, his blockage removed, and the swelling on his body has already started to subside. He's missing a few teeth that were broken off when he was hit, but he's got a mouth full of others to make up for it. He's already done a complete 180 from where he was a week ago. Even just a few days ago when we took him to Sam Bass Veterinary Wellness for the foreign body removal, he acted like he just wanted to lay down and die. This morning when we picked him up, he was all nubby tail butt wags and wanting to drive himself home!
Even better news, we found a fantastic foster for him to recover this next week. They're one of our most reliable and generous fosters/friends that we usually call first, but we hesitated since they just had a tragedy of their own. But guess what...Togo is going to help heal their hearts. He's that type of dog. He didn't hesitate when meeting them and jumping into their car to go home. Say a prayer for them and for Togo. Even though he's doing so much better, he's got a lot of healing to do.

This is the BEST news! After years of advocacy by just about everyone who cares about the issue of declawing, the Austin City Council voted unanimously to prohibit the practice. A huge shout out to Paw Project Director, Dr. Katrina Breitreiter at South Austin Cat Hospital for leading the way!
We also wish to give special shoutout to Central Texas Cat Hospital now Sam Bass Veterinary Wellness who have banned declaw procedures in Round Rock since 2004. Thank you Drs. Roy Smith and Todd Murphy for your vision and commitment to feline welfare from the very early years!
