Dr. Agnew is a board certified Orthopaedic surgeon and orthopaedic traumatologist. He received his undergraduate degree in biology from University of South Carolina-Honors College in Columbia, South Carolina, and earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed a General Surgery internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and his Orthopaedic surgery residency at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. Dr. Agnew earned his fellowship certification in Orthopaedic Traumatology in the Orthopaedic Traumatology Advanced Clinical Experience program at Harborview Medical Center / University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, under the direction of Marc Swiontkowski, MD. Prior to coming to the Hughston Clinic, Dr. Agnew served as Orthopaedic Traumatologist and Clinical Associate Professor in Orthopaedic surgery with Michigan State University School of Human Medicine. He also developed and founded Global Trauma Solutions, Inc., a corporation dedicated to the development of sustainable practice models for traumatologists.
Dr. Agnew is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Orthopedic Trauma Association, and other international and regional organizations. He serves as teaching faculty for Clemson University Department of Biology: Pre-Medical Studies Program and is an Honorary Adjunct Clinical Professor for Hospital Universitario Austral in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Dr. Agnew has published extensively—peer-reviewed articles in major orthopaedic journals, book chapters, and his research has been presented at national meetings. His clinical and research interests include complex injuries and the long-term outcomes. Dr. Agnew enjoys teaching and plans to continue his research and teaching interests through the Hughston Foundation, Inc.
