About

Country Day Montessori School was founded to provide a rich and challenging Montessori environment for children; inspiring creativity, thought, expression, imagination, and scholarship. The school offers a safe and caring community in which children can be successful and one that works in harmony with the development and nature of each child. We encourage and promote the development of confidence, independence, self-discipline, social, academic, and personal excellence. Specifically, we help each student develop written, oral, and spontaneous communication skills. The ultimate goal for each is to become an academically mature, responsible, thinking, contributing member of society. We believe in the attributes of honesty, integrity, trust, respect, and community. Country Day Montessori School was founded in 1983 and serves children from age 2 through 6th grade. We are located in northeast San Antonio two miles inside Loop 1604 taking the Bulverde Road exit.

Having fun at SACDMS!
Encourage your child to keep trying the things they say they can't do. Share with them how you struggled but became better at a skill. Teaching children to persevere when something is hard for them is a trait that will help them be successful throughout their life!
When you enroll at San Antonio Country Day Montessori School, you can be sure your child is getting a well-rounded education; inspired by creativity, thought, expression, imagination, and scholarship.
“Check-ins” With Your Children: When you see your children after school and ask, “How was your day?” You probably hear, “Fine.” Ask, “What did you do at school today?” Usual response, “Nothing.” These questions are too broad and general for most children. Try specific, frequent “check-ins” with them instead. You might ask, “How are your lunches working for you?” “Are you making any new friends?” “How are you communicating with your teacher?” “What do you think about your schoolwork?” Start with open-ended questions and let their response guide your next question or response. If that does not work, try specific questions to start the dialogue, i.e., “What fun things did you do with your hands today?” or “Did you learn any new words today?” Often, it is easier for your children to talk about things while doing something else together, like walking the dog or coloring a picture together. “Check-in” often. “Take their pulse” on different aspects of their young lives!

With Halloween just around the corner it is important to remember to continue to foster independence for your children. A full costume that zips in the back may be super cute, however, can your child take it off and on? Does it foster their independence by allowing them to do it themselves? Can they put on the cool moon boots themselves? Remember to follow the child and allow room for them to still be independent in their own way this season.
We have so much fun at SACDMS!

Fear of failure is a common trait in children. In order to help them overcome this, you can: • Give them plenty of opportunities to try new things • Give them many opportunities to try the same thing • Share how you struggled to learn a new skill and the journey you took to become successful • Give them opportunities to fail • Give them opportunities to solve their problems before you help them fix it Children often see adults as infallible causing them to set unattainable expectations for themselves (perfection). Let them see you make mistakes and talk about how it made you feel and how you fixed it. Share your expectations for them and tell them how much you love the perfectly imperfect person they are!
We know it’s not the typical Halloween, but we hope it’s spook-tastic nonetheless!! Happy Halloween to our SACDMS students and parents! We hope you all have a spooktacular night! 🎃👻🍬
Limit Exposure to Negative News Seeing and hearing about violence, crime, and natural disasters can cause children to experience fear, anxiety, and stress. Be aware and mindful of where your children are when you are watching the news. As adults watch, so do the children. They might be playing in a nearby room or in the same room as you during the TV broadcast. The children hear the adults talking. They may not understand what is being said, but they observe and hear your reactions. This can cause confusion and be a source of anxiety and worry. Look for signs that the news they heard or saw may have triggered fears or stress. Reassure them that you will keep them safe. Recently, when I asked a student how she knew something, she answered, “I was listening to the adults talking when they thought my friends and I were just playing.”
Our Montessori environment is designed to inspire creativity in each and every one our of students, while providing the support they need to let their individual personality grow and shine. Visit our website to learn more!
Children love to help. In class we have practical life areas that allow the child to learn real life activities that prepare them for their world. Children aren’t born knowing how to do everything. It’s up to us to let them learn and grow. Here are some tips for setting up activities for them to do at home: Washing your windows- give them soapy water, a rag and a squeegee and provide a space they can clean. You can do it together. Cleaning the floors- sweep together, you can even get a small broom for them or have them help with the dust pan. Vacuuming- it’s a fun thing to do for kids. I have a small handheld vacuum that my children can help vacuum up crumbs at home. Folding- towels are easy to fold, let them help you. Cooking- stirring, mixing, grating cheese, kneading dough, rolling dough. Pouring- provide small cups and let them pour back and forth, it’s a great wrist strengthener! When we do the work for the child we hinder their growth. This can be a great bonding experience while also getting things done around the house.
Wishing you a very happy and fun Thanksgiving!
Physical distancing, not emotional distancing Given our new normal, it is understandable that childcare providers, educators and families might feel anxious as they try to balance comfort and crisis management, such as social distancing. Now more than ever it is critical to keep connections and comforting care at the forefront. It is still important talk to children, laugh with them, and comfort them. As an educator or parent, labeling feelings, singing songs, and dancing are still important when it comes to comforting children. Children can comfort each other with a high five or smile.
Mark your calendar.... enrollment for the next school year opens in February!

Praise is a powerful tool, but "with great power comes great responsibility!" Identify areas where your child is exercising their creativity or where they are putting in a lot of effort. Even if they are not successfully "achieving" their goal, letting them know that you recognize the effort that they are putting in will encourage them to keep trying. Let your child hear you praising them to other adults. Try to limit praise based simply on appearances, especially things they don't control, since their self-worth will often mirror the things they have most often been praised for in the past.
Does your child know what to do in an emergency? • Teach your children basic contact information. They should know their full name, parents’ names, home address, and the phone number of at least one parent; both is better. • Teach them when and how to call 911 (If your cell phone has a passcode, teach them how to bypass that to make the emergency call.) • Cell phones do not automatically send location data when you dial 911. (The dispatcher’s computer sends a location request to the phone. The data exchange can take seconds, even minutes, and may not return the location at all. Knowing that basic information is important!) • Have a plan if your child gets lost or separated from you. • Never go anywhere with a stranger. Make sure they know that you would never send a stranger to pick them up or take them somewhere.
