Replacement Cost vs Actual Cash Value
Do you know which policy you have and what the differences are?
Replacement cost will pay for the full cost to replace the damaged item, up to the policy limits.
Actual Cash Value will pay for the depreciated value of the damaged item.
Which is better? It depends on the situation. If you purchase a home for $250k, and the replacement cost is $260k, a replacement cost policy would give you the best coverage and cover your investment. If you buy a home for $50k and the replacement cost is $200k, you would need to decide if you want to cover your investment only, or if you would like to be able to replace the home in the event of a total loss.

I spoke with a woman today who is in her 60’s. She and her husband had never been able to purchase their own home before due to multiple different circumstances. Sadly, her husband recently passed away.
While she is still grieving his loss, she reminded me how thankful she was that they had thought ahead and purchased life insurance. While she is still saddened by the passing of her best friend, this month she is purchasing the home they have renting for years. Her husband can Rest In Peace knowing she will not have to worry about how to pay the rent. She will have her very own home and his legacy will continue to live on, as she is thankful every day to come home to the first place she has ever owned.
It was a very touching story and a very real reminder of the importance of life insurance.
