Satyen P. Madkaiker, MD, has lived in Jacksonville since 2001. He’s been in private practice in Jacksonville, Florida, since 2003, serving patients in St. John’s, Duval, and Clay counties. He moved to Jacksonville from Philadelphia after completing his psychiatry residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and a Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania.
He is board-certified in psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He has extensive training and experience with current evidence-based patient care, medication management, and electroconvulsive therapy. He has previously been the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at the Baptist group of hospitals. He continues to be associated with Baptist Hospital, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Memorial Hospital and Riverpoint Behavioral Health Hospital. He has previously been the Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Florida. He teaches medical students at his office and on the inpatient psychiatric units.
He has worked extensively with patients who have had severe psychiatric disorders and substance abuse issues. He has emphasized correct diagnosis and the use of medications and therapies that are tailor-made for each patient.
He has provided electroconvulsive therapy, and ketamine assisted electroconvulsive therapy for severely depressed patients for the past 12 years. He has been impressed by the use of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and its use in treatment-resistant depression. His work in TMS is the culmination of over 22 years of clinical practice, academic teaching, and clinical research.
