Flea and tick prevention is an important part of being a pet parent. Not only are fleas and ticks annoying and uncomfortable for your pets, they also carry and transmit a variety of serious diseases. Make sure your pet stays on a prevention plan throughout the year. Call us at 781-233-1340 and order your pets’ medications like flea, tick and heartworm preventives over the phone! We’ll have it ready to be picked up curbside.
September is National Guide Dog Month. These special pups live to serve, protect and assist. Guide dogs, seeing eye dogs, service pets, and assistance animals are all considered service dogs. Did you know that guide dogs are trained to display “intelligent disobedience?” This means they will refuse to obey a command from their owners if they see a danger their owners have missed, such as a car that ran a red light. Pretty smart pups!
If you share your life with a dog, you know that every week is National Dog Week! Share the ways you’re celebrating with your furry best friend!!
A lot has changed over the last few months, but our commitment to providing the best medical care for our patients, while keeping our staff and clients safe is still our top priority. It’s Fear Free Friday!!! Tywin was here for his first puppy visit, and was so into his cheesy snack, that he didn't mind the nail trim at all. Can you believe this 30lb. baby is only 10 weeks old???

The holidays are coming! We realize your plans may be different this year due to COVID-19, but if you are travelling and planning on boarding your dog, we encourage you to make sure he/she is up to date on their vaccines before your trip. In addition to the core vaccines Rabies & Distemper, most boarding facilities require your dog be vaccinated for Bordetella (kennel cough) prior to their stay. Each boarding facility is different, so we encourage you to call your provider and ask what is required for your dog's stay. If your dog isn't up to date on the required vaccines, give us a call at 781-233-1340 to book an appointment!

Those treats add up! 😱 A little for you is a lot for your pet. These graphics show the human equivalent in calories of those small snacks you might give your pet. Sharing human treats with your pet can lead to unhealthy weight gain, vomiting, diarrhea, and pancreatitis. Please think twice and consider a nutritious doggie or kitty treat! We all want #healthypets !

Meet Lily! Lily is one of our diabetic patients, and stayed with us recently to complete a blood glucose curve. This test is commonly performed on diabetic patients to evaluate the effectiveness of the patient's insulin dose. During this test, the patient receives their insulin and breakfast at their usual time. Small blood samples are then taken routinely throughout the day (approximately every 2 hours) & the patient's blood glucose is measured using a glucometer. When testing is complete, the Doctor will then analyze the readings and determine whether the patient's insulin dose is effective, or whether it needs to be adjusted. Blood glucose curves are one of several helpful tools that your pet's Doctor will use to ensure their diabetes is being managed effectively and safely, especially when your pet is first diagnosed with the disease. As you can see, Lily had a very relaxing stay with us. Her Mom brought her favorite bed & toy, which she loved to snuggle! Lily also enjoyed belly rubs & pets from our staff throughout the day, making for a guaranteed Fear Free visit <3
Fleas and ticks love to hide in leaves and tall grass.😨🙅‍♀‍ Deer ticks in particular can remain active even after a frost, which is one reason why we recommend keeping your pet on a flea & tick preventative all year long. Some preventatives we recommend include: • Simparica Trio chews for dogs (also prevents heartworm disease!) • Vectra 3D topical for dogs • Bravecto chews for dogs & topical for cats • Seresto collar for dogs & cats • Revolution Plus for cats Call us today if your pet is in need of a refill, or with any questions you have about flea & tick preventatives!
With many of us working and schooling from home, coworkers and classmates just got a whole lot cuter! Tag us in a picture of you and your #WorkFromHomeBuddy getting the job done. #Coworkers #WFHBuddy
Congratulations to Cristin (our CSR), George & Dozer, on the adoption of their new pup, Draco! He is a pure Mystery Mutt, and a total lovebug. Draco hails from Missouri, but is enjoying the snow very much! At 4 months old, he is a bit of a clumsy baby, as he is growing into those giant paws. Welcome to the SAH family, Draco! 🐾 #draco #puppylove #weloveyourpets #saugusanimalhospital #bigpaws #earsuppup

Check it out: there are 2 baby girls in this picture! Dr. Bloom is expecting her second child, and perched atop her baby bump is her new friend Rue, a 17 week-old kitten who had her first visit with us on Monday! As Dr. Bloom's little girl is due next month, she will be on maternity leave from March to June. For those of you who are long-time clients, you may notice a familiar face around the hospital, as Dr. Binder will returning temporarily to cover her maternity leave!
