School of Rock has proudly partnered with Independent Venue Week in the efforts to help save our stages. Independent Venue Week is taking place between October 24 - 30. This year they are hosting a fundraiser to benefit the NIVA Emergency Relief Fund, a fund dedicated to providing a financial lifeline to the venues and promoters suffering from catastrophic revenue loss. Hosted as an eBay for Charity auction, the Independent Venue Week fundraiser will donate net proceeds directly to the NIVA Emergency Relief Fund through the Giving Back Fund. These venues play such an important role in our student's musical journeys. #sor_alx

A core component of our performance-based music education is to make our students aware of the countless individuals who have contributed to our favorite music. Rock music’s roots can be found in many genres, but particularly in blues, jazz, and gospel music. These styles originated in predominantly Black communities and were played predominantly by Black artists. School of Rock is proud to recognize and celebrate some of the most influential Black musicians to contemporary music, especially rock, over the last century. As a start, we've added new feature shows to our curriculum each of which encompasses 20-25 songs from Black artists. As part of the curriculum, students will learn to perform these songs and discover important lessons about the complex experience of marginalized communities. https://rocki.ng/3nfmQCJ

Cunning, who starred as Sabine in Netflix's Emmy Award winning show "Trinkets", was recently signed to Lava Records and has collaborated with game-changing songwriters and producers like Justin Parker and Sir Nolan. Many of Kat's songs began as poems set to simple instrumentation before being worked on by producers to build the track from the ground up. Tune in online to hear about Kat's songwriting process and experiences in the music industry.
