About

School of Rock Carmel provides both in-person and online music lessons for students of all ages. Our programs, camps and workshops for toddlers, kids, teens and adults make learning to play music fun and create great communities of musicians. School of Rock is the leader in performance-based music education. We combine one-on-one drum, bass, keyboard, vocal, and guitar lessons with group practices. Students learn to play music from day one and put on live performances at local venues. Our experienced instructors are local musicians themselves who combine the performance-based School of Rock Method and programs with individual music lessons to get results for your student.

Helpful tips from SoR! School of Rock November 12 at 10:07 PM · When starting to read drum notes, here are some helpful tips to consider: 1. BREAK THE LESSON DOWN INTO SMALLER PIECES. When learning a new song on drums, divide its sections into unique groups and work on them one at a time. Then connect them together. This trick will help you memorize the parts of the song more quickly. 2. TAKE IT SLOW. New drummers need to develop coordination between their limbs. Learning drums is just as much of a mental challenge as it is a physical challenge. A good method for new drummers is to practice rudiments and paradiddles taught in our drum lessons so you can learn different patterns of right and left strokes on the drums. 3. SET TIME ASIDE TO PRACTICE EVERY DAY. Beginner drummers need to train their brains to use their limbs in new ways. Setting aside time every day to practice will help reinforce good habits and lead to more consistent improvement than doing longer, less-frequent practice sessions. 4. CONSIDER DRUM NOTATION SOFTWARE. Drum notation software is a helpful tool when learning how to read and write music. As you learn the language, consider using different applications to help you grasp new concepts behind the drums set. A metronome is also a necessary tool for new drummers to help locate the beat and keep steady time. Tempo control will improve tremendously when a metronome is used in students’ practice routines. 5. USE WORDS TO MAKE RHYTHMS EASIER. For beginners, learning to read drum notation is a lot like learning a new language. Use associations early on to remember what certain things mean on the drums. For example, certain words contain syllables that are applicable to different rhythms. The word “pizza” can be used to remember how to play eighth notes. The word “cheese” can represent quarter notes. “Pepperoni” can be used for sixteenth notes, “anchovy” for triplets, etc. To learn more about Drum Notation for Beginners visit: https://rocki.ng/3lmMapP

We want to hire a diverse team of instructors and are looking to fill a few spots for part time or even super part time teaching of music lessons. Never taught before? That's ok. Are you a musician? Would you like to learn how to teach music lessons? Send us a video of yourself playing in a performance that best shows off your chops, along with a little background on yourself and why we should consider you as a teacher at School of Rock. SCHOOL OF ROCK CARMEL Musicians Wanted!
Instructor Spotlight! Mr. Stealing Volume himself, SCOTT TOLLEY! 1.) If you weren't a musician, what would your dream job be? If not a musician my dream job would be working with animals in some way or another like running a rescue or sanctuary. 2.) It's the last day of your life. What would you like your last meal to be? My last meal would be a huge plate of chicken tikka masala from India Garden. 3.) What is the best cartoon of all time? Why? I am crazy about anything Hanna Barbera from the 70's. 4.) What is your favorite song you've gotten to teach at School of Rock? What is your least favorite? There have been so many great moments throughout the years but honestly I really enjoyed teaching "Misery Business" by Paramore. I wasn't familiar with the song before teaching it and it's really fun to play. I didn't enjoy teaching "Black Betty" by Ram Jam. 5.) It's your day off. You have the whole house and the whole day to yourself. How are you spending it? That would probably involve taking Bianca (my french bulldog) to the park and then picking up some carryout from 317 Burger, the couch and some television.
😂
Huge thanks to Sophia for helping prep swag bags for new students! Tell your friends about SoR and they'll get one if they join!
