Isolation was something we all experienced during the COVID Pause. The shocking change in life left many, if not all of us, feeling isolated and depressed. SOR switched our in person programs to online which included our performance program. Students were able to stay connected, continue their rehearsals and help shake off the blues.

School of Rock student Lauren Frihauf made her debut on this season of NBC’s 'The Voice’. The 16-year-old singer from School of Rock performed Melissa Etheridge’s “Come to My Window” during the audition round of the show. ‘Voice’ judges Gwen Stefani and John Legend both turned their chairs, indicating they wanted Frihauf on their team this season, where they will coach and mentor the young singer. Frihauf chose Stefani as her coach for the season. “I can’t believe you’re 16,” Stefani said. “You’re like my dream person to work with on this show.”

We took a short break from in-person instruction due to a probable COVID exposure. We are excited to be back in the school today - and we always have the option for remote lessons.
Our mask compliance is at or near 100% (Shannon and the rest of our staff are VERY diligent about this), our group size is never above 10 (including staff), and we put our 9-person rehearsal groups in a 5000 square foot space with singers in individual rooms.
In short, we are keeping our school as safe as possible. No COVID transmissions have been attributed to our location and we're working hard to keep it that way. We know each family has to make decisions that are right for them - and if state or local requirements dictate a change in our operation, we will comply.

Asha has been a keyboard student at School of Rock Cincinnati for 2 years, and has been playing piano for 4 years. She started out in our Rock 101 program, where she learned the fundamentals of playing in a band. After about 4 months in Rock 101, Asha graduated to the Performance Program. She joined the Kinks vs. Pretenders show in February. This group worked on songs together, then created amazing videos that were shown at our drive in show in June. Asha says that she likes every song she plays at School of Rock because it's a new challenge! Asha goes to North Avondale Montessori elementary school. She loves to walk her dog in Bramble park and around Madisonville. She also creates digital art in her free time.

Join us during Black History Month as we celebrate some of our favorite artists. Aretha Franklin grew up in Detroit singing gospel in her father's church choir. Despite often being associated with Motown, she started finding commercial success in the mid 1960's with Atlantic Records. By the end of the 60's, Aretha Franklin was known as the "Queen of Soul".
Aretha charted 117 songs on the Billboard charts during her career. She also received many awards and accolades including being the first female performer inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2019, the Pulitzer Prize jury awarded her a posthumous special citation "for her indelible contribution to American music and culture for more than five decades".

On this day in 1940, Motown legend Smokey Robinson is born in Detroit, Michigan. Smokey Robinson, singer, songwriter and producer who with The Miracles had the No.1 single 'The Tears Of A Clown'. As a solo artist Robinson topped the charts in 1981 with 'Being With You'. In addition to his group and solo performing careers, he wrote or co-wrote thousands of songs for Motown artists such as The Temptations, Mary Wells, Brenda Holloway, The Marvelettes, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, and more. He became the vice President of Motown Records in 1972. During the course of his 50-year career in music, Robinson accumulated more than 4,000 songs to his credit.

We're about to rock in NKY! School of Rock Northern Kentucky is opening later this month and we need one more experienced guitar instructor to round out our staff.
The School of Rock Music Instructor teaches students from AC/DC to Zappa. The Instructor creates a safe and cool environment for students to achieve their musical and creative potential and ensures that each School of Rock student has an exceptional musical journey.
In support of that goal, the Instructor is responsible for all music and education-related elements within the lessons. The Instructor creates a dynamic lesson experience to ensure their students are challenged and inspired. The Instructor embodies rock and roll in a positive way and is responsible for creating a valuable student lesson experience.
We teach five core areas at School of Rock - keys, vocals, guitar, bass and drums. Many of our instructors have broader musical talent as well which we do our best to engage.
Music Instruction:
- Maximize the quality of music instruction including private lessons and shows
- Be sure the students are learning the fundamentals of music, not just songs
- Create and document thoughtful lesson plans
Customer Connection:
- Communicate regularly with parents on progress of students after lessons
- Interact with parents and students regularly by being visible and accessible in the school
- Pitch in during canceled lessons in the overall execution of the program
- Assist in rehearsals and basic maintenance in school
- Adheres to the SOR Code of Conduct, safety policies, including the Monitoring and Supervision policy.
Skill Requirements:
- Some experience teaching and/or performing music professionally
- Knowledge of music theory and curriculum design
- Excellent ability to deal well with a wide range of customers and other people
- Strong organizational skills
- Very strong customer relations skills
- Resourceful and good problem-solver
- Works well under pressure
- Ideal candidate is a working musician who also has formal music school training
- Enthusiastic, flexible, patient, and positive demeanor
- Good judgment a must
