A few months ago, School of Rock CEO, Rob Price, shared a message with our community in response to the call for racial justice and equality, committing as a company to do more. We have since added 86 songs by Black artists and bands led by Black artists to our repertoire!
Additionally, utilizing the collective knowledge of the talented instructors across the School of Rock system, the School of Rock website now features a series of articles and interactive content on the historical contribution of Black artists to Rock and Roll.
“We teach musical proficiency through rock because contemporary songs offer an effective toolkit, particularly in group performance. Just as importantly, popular music opens a door to history. We have an obligation to honor those Black artists without whom there would be no Rock and Roll, and by extension no School of Rock.” - Rob Price.
Check out the Celebrating Black Artists webpage and discover how these incredible musicians were integral in shaping the genre we love: https://www.schoolofrock.com/celebrating-black-artists

An important component of the performance-based education approach at School of Rock is to make our students aware of the countless individuals who have contributed to our favorite #music. Rock music’s roots can be found in many genres, but particularly in #blues, #jazz, & #gospel music. These styles originated in predominantly Black communities & were played predominantly by Black artists. School of Rock is proud to recognize & celebrate some of the most influential #Blackmusicians to contemporary music, especially rock, over the last century.
