3 Vocal Warm Up Exercises to prepare to sing.
1. YAWN-SIGH TECHNIQUE:For this quick vocal exercise, simply yawn (take in air) with your mouth closed. Then, exhale through your nose as if you are sighing. This will help relax your voice and improve its range.
2. HUMMING WARM-UPS: Humming is one of the best vocal warm-ups because it doesn’t put a lot of strain on your vocal cords. Place the tip of your tongue behind your bottom front teeth and hum up and down the major scale while keeping your mouth closed. Each note should sound like “hmmm” — including the “h” sound is less taxing on your voice.
3. VOCAL STRAW EXERCISE: Take a straw and hum through it. Start at the bottom of your range and slide up to the top slowly and evenly. Then, hum your favorite song through the straw.
It may not always be easy for musicians to meet at school but the clubhouse feel of School of Rock allows like-minded artists to develop lifelong memories and relationships.
KISS is a great show for our students. They not only learn about stage presence but the make up helps our more shy students gain confidence by "hiding" behind the mask. And, they LOVE the music too!
The traditional approach to music education is to learn the parts and then put them together. Then there are guitar teachers who teach kids how to play songs, but they don't teach the students how and why the songs work.
At School of Rock, we provide the instant gratification of learning the song first AND we teach them the theory behind the songs so that they can apply that knowledge to other songs.
On top of that, we offer a combination of private lessons and band rehearsal to keep kids engaged in learning and having fun while doing so.
October is Anti-Bullying Month. Don't be a bully!
SO EXCITED for Mid-Season show tomorrow! See you all then. Please remember to wear your masks.

If your child hasn't yet discovered their lifelong hobby, bring them in to School of Rock. Let's see if music is their jam.

Ellie was really 'not feeling' the key lessons she was getting from her instructor. She was nice and all, but she really wasn't interested in the music she was being taught. One day she was walking by her dad's man cave and he was listening to "Deep Purple - Made In Japan' and she was hooked...crazy keyboards in a rock band! She couldn't wait to go to a place where she could learn such great material...next day Dad brought her to School of Rock.
SAVE THE DATE: END OF SEASON SHOW will LIVE STREAM right here on December 20. First band kicks it off at 1pm and we'll stream great music until about 5:00pm.
If you're tuning in to watch a particular band, all band-member families will have the schedule shortly.
I challenge anyone to tell me this isn't a HIT SONG! https://youtu.be/vEHVFlvtK4U Share it with everyone you know. Let's get those "thumbs up" on YouTube into the hundreds of thousands for this School of Rock EP grad.

Legend (Gin & Tonic)
Andrew first came to SOR at the age of 7, he was afraid to go into the rehearsal room. He said he was afraid of the other kids seeing him while he played the drums. We tried a trick of "invisiblility glasses". The other kids played along and kept asking where Andrew was and was there a ghost playing the drums. At the age of 11 Andrew ran for class president and won 3 years in a row.

Bennie really liked playing the bass drum in marching band, but since the COVID pandemic curtailed his marching band activities a lot, he wanted to find something he would like playing when he had some alone time, which seem to be more and more lately. Since he was big fan of Motown & rhythm and blues, he decided to take up the bass. It was great for him to be able to play along with the songs he liked listening to, and it gave him a chance to just be alone with his music. - Learn to Play Bass
