Alicia really likes playing piano but sometimes can take longer than some other people to learn new songs. During her show rehearsals she put in her best effort in playing the songs and her bandmates were always willing to take their time with the songs because they knew on show day Alicia always came thorugh. Patience is absolutely crucial in all aspects of being a serious musician, especially when playing in a group.

Andrew first came to SOR at the age of 7, he was afraid to go into the rehearsal room. He said he was afraid of the other kids seeing him while he played the drums. We tried a trick of "invisiblility glasses". The other kids played along and kept asking where Andrew was and was there a ghost playing the drums. At the age of 11 Andrew ran for class president and won 3 years in a row.

Hayley played her first concert hiding behind the guitar amp. She was 13 years old and terrified of playing in front of an audience. With each performance Hayley inched out and eventually played in front of a full house at the Highline Ballroom. She leaned in to the crowd for a guitar solo and realized that there were several audience members stretching toward her waving guitar hands in support. It's a moment Hayley will never forget.

Oftentimes new students join School of Rock having never participated in team activities. Being in a band helps children develop many of the social skills they will need for life. It teaches them cooperation, sharing and listening to and considering input from others. It teaches our students how to follow directions and work towards self-discipline.

As a vocalist and guitarist, Amanda was completely amazed how Matt Bellamy was able to sing and play Muse's intricate music. As a budding songwriter, Amanda really appreciated the depth of Matt's lyric writing and the complexity of the music and how it impacted her emotionally.

When Hazel's academic school went remote due to Covid, her mother said she was lonely and fighting isolation. Being able to continue her in-person music lessons and weekly band rehearsal is the "highlight of her week."
