The School of Rock Glenbrook fam gives a huge shout out to SOR Oak Park student Cat Nickles. Cat has raised over $18,600 for Beyond Hunger through her 8th Grade Capstone Project, "The Quarantine Cookbook." Now a Freshman at OPRF, Cat's project has inspired many media headlines including a national spot on Live! with Kelly and Ryan.

Join her next Thursday, September 24th from 6:30-8pm in a virtual cooking class via Zoom from the historic Cheney Mansion kitchen! She will walk you through her cookbook favorites: guacamole and chocolate peanut butter shake, as well as a new basic pasta dish! This is a family friendly event, so grab your kids and get them in the kitchen. You will be emailed a list of all the ingredients and supplies you need to cook along from home and the Zoom link. Proceeds to benefit Beyond Hunger!

🎸Charles Edward Anderson Berry aka Chuck Berry🎸
Originally from St. Louis, Berry began his association with pianist Johnnie Johnson and caught the attention of Chess Records in Chicago, who released his hit single “Maybelline” in 1955. “Maybelline” was essentially a reworking of the Western Swing song “Ida Red”. Chuck was heavily influenced by the showmanship of T-Bone Walker and developed his signature “Duck Walk”. Chuck’s guitar style has been an influence on virtually every guitar player that came after him.
As one of the forefathers of Rock and Roll, Chuck appealed to both Black and white audiences and was instrumental in bridging them together. During the segregated 50s, he cleverly addressed race in songs such as “Brown Eyed Handsome Man” and “Johnny B Goode” by making the characters relatable to both Black and white listeners. Chuck Berry was active from 1953 - 2017 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. He passed at the age of 90.

All books will be donated to Bernie's Book Bank which sources, processes and distributes quality children’s books to significantly increase book ownership among under-served infants, toddlers and school-age children throughout Chicagoland.
