About

School of Rock Metairie/New Orleans provides both in-person and online music lessons for students of all ages. Our programs, camps and workshops for toddlers, kids, teens and adults make learning to play music fun and create great communities of musicians. School of Rock is the leader in performance-based music education. We combine one-on-one drum, bass, keyboard, vocal, and guitar lessons with group practices. Students learn to play music from day one and put on live performances at local venues. Our experienced instructors are local musicians themselves who combine the performance-based School of Rock Method and programs with individual music lessons to get results for your student.

Every October, schools and organizations across the country join in observing National Bullying Prevention Month. The goal: Work together to stop bullying and cyberbullying and put an end to hatred and racism by increasing awareness of the prevalence and impact of all forms of bullying on all children of all ages. School of Rock makes a pledge to stand up against bullying, will you?
Meet Kyle! Kyle Melancon first fell in love with drumming at the age of nine when he saw Keith Moon in the film “The Kids Are Alright.” At that moment he knew that he was going to be a drummer. It seemed a foolish dream at the time but he was determined. In 1995, that dream became a reality when Kyle joined legendary Louisiana band Dash Rip Rock. With Dash Rip Rock, he toured the world for 20 years and was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2012. Kyle also plays drums for Emmy Award-winning children’s group Imagination Movers, touring the world entertaining and educating children of all ages. The education aspect of children’s entertainment made him realize that he wanted to pass on his knowledge and experience to the next generation of drummers and he couldn’t be more thrilled to be at School of Rock doing just that. 🎸♥️

Molly came to the School of Rock in the Spring of 2019, mostly a beginner bass student. Within a few short months she proved to be a prodigy on the instrument. Her positive attitude is contagious and effervescent personality shines a bright light for all the students she comes in contact with. She auditioned for the Houseband later that fall, and earned her spot by showing the judges her mastery of the instrument. She has continued learning and growing ever since, and has a bright future ahead of her! 🎸

Drumming has been his passion for over a decade but teaching has become the most self-rewarding experience of his life. Being able to watch and learn from drummers like Vinnie Paul, Phil Collins, and James Gadson has been so important to his journey. Being able to pass on knowledge has always been a key factor in Music History. He is so happy to be a part of the School of Rock family.

Jessica has a strong background in non-profit, financial and operations management and has worked in these capacities in both non-profit organizations and in educational sectors in New Orleans and Denver, CO. This is a music school, not a film school, so leave the drama at home. It’s about the band, not about you. Everyone is important in a show and no one is successful alone. It takes musicians, technicians, roadies, front office staff, etc for a show to go on. Be willing to do what is asked of you and support the band/show. Be encouraging and support your peers in the show. Ask what you can do to help. Be willing to sacrifice. Don’t bring drama into the band. Be an encourager who builds others up, not someone who tears others down. Be unselfish and think of others first. No one wants to be around a downer.
