Phil always worked really hard learning to play bass guitar, and practiced every chance he got. Before joining School of Rock, he never really got any feedback from his peers (his parents always said he was doing great). While working in his Performance Group band, he slowly saw the really positive reactions he was getting from his fellow musicians. Getting great feedback from his friends made him feel more confident and greatly improved his feelings about himself.

The traditional approach to music education is to learn the parts and then put them together. Then there are guitar teachers who teach kids how to play songs, but they don't teach the students how and why the songs work. At School of Rock, we provide the instant gratification of learning the song first AND we teach them the theory behind the songs so that they can apply that knowledge to other songs. On top of that, we offer a combination of private lessons and band rehearsal to keep kids engaged in learning and having fun while doing so.

Interesting Tidbits About Michael Kowalski
- Michael is old school SOR alumni. He started guitar lessons at SOR Princeton when he was 10 yrs old after seeing his friend perform in an Allman Brothers -vs- Lynrd Skynyrd Show.
- He signed up for his first show, KISS shortly after.
- He can play bass, guitar, and keys.
- His favorite musicians are Frank Zappa, The Grateful Dead, Prince, and Led Zeppelin
- He became a staff instructor and show director in 2015, and loves that he can teach music theory through rock songs.
-He feels his strength as an instructor/director is his ability to find a way to connect with each student in front of him.
- He graduated from UArts with a degree in Theater and Set Design. He finds that his background in this field is very useful to him as a musician, because it helps him to understand the other things that are happening on stage besides the music.
- He is a super talented artist, who enjoys painting and creative outlets. The original artwork in the rehearsal room was painted by him.
- He is currently directing the Power Trios Show, and providing individual bass lessons.
