How not to damage your vehicle's paint and windows during a forest fire!
Ash by itself is not a problem until it combines with water - even just a little from wet nights or foggy mornings can cause corrosive chemical etching. And with rain on it's way (hopefully), here are the methods to prevent the problems.
First, rinse thoroughly with a hose paying special attention to your windows and wiper blades. Try to wash over gravel or lawns as to not rinse the ash into the storm drains. After rinsing, wash with automotive soap and water (again not rinsing into storm drains). Dry carefully.
Of course, if practical, keep vehicles in a garage, or use a fitted car cover (only use the cover AFTER cleaning, to not scratch the paint). If the ash fall continues, you may need to wash each day! Always close all vehicle windows & sun roofs for any period of time unless you have a child or pet inside...or better than that DON'T leave them inside!
After fires subside, check your engine air filters and cabin air filters. Clean or replace. Your wiper blades may need replacement also.
Thanks to autoserviceworld.com and meguiresonline.com
Number one: turn on your lights when driving with the smoke and ash in the air....better yet, leave then on the entire time you are driving!
Number two: if you have air conditioning in your vehicle, turn to "max air" position to draw the air from the inside of the vehicle, not outside. If you don't have the max air option, turn the knob to recirculate inside air!
Number three: remember after this is over to have your cabin air filter replaced if you have one in your vehicle.
Number four: don't forget your engine air filter!
A day to never forget, 9/11/2001. Thinking of the firefighters then and the firefighters now, who are working day and night to save and preserve lives, homes and businesses. Thank you!
A 34 Ford Convertible, one of the cleanest hot rods we've seen here in a long time. We did some service work on this one. Do you have one in your garage that needs some love? Bring it to Schweitzer's Automotive and let us help you!
Thank you to Steve Bruce and Lydia Schweitzer for processing everything for our BRING and ECOBIZ certifications. Both required a lot of research and follow up, but it was well worth it! I hope more businesses get on the band wagon. Dave Schweitzer
We are looking for a part time clean up person. No experience needed other than a good attitude and willingness to listen and follow instructions. Could be as little as a few hours a couple days a week, or more if wanting to learn more about the automotive business.

Today we had our monthly shop lunch, cooked by one of our work "family". Of course, we forgot to take a photo because we ate too fast and too much! Stephen made wonderful meatball sandwiches and Lydia made potato salad with Dave's help. So instead of showing today's lunch, here was LAST month's made by Ian - bacon swirl rolled meatloaf...another yum moment. We are so lucky to have employees willing to experiment on us!

A big shoutout to Dave, Lydia and all the crew at Schweitzerโs Automotive. These guys are problem solvers and always find a way to keep our fleet and personal vehicles in great shape at the lowest cost. They saved us $700 on a catalytic converters repair this week. I highly recommend them.
Public Service Announcement! With the rains creating standing water and rivers on roadways, please avoid driving through them. This can cause loss of control and in some cases you can lose your drive belts.
Ho Ho HO, wonderful stocking stuffers! Personal alarm and light, magnetic flash light or work light - all USB rechargeable, no batteries to deal with! $20, $20.95 and $31 respectively...come and get them before they are gone.
Schweitzer's Automotive wishes you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving! We will be closed both on Thursday and Friday and the weekend. Looking forward to assisting you on Monday November 30th.
Veterans Day is a time for us to pay our respects to those who have served. For one day, we stand united in respect for you, our veterans. This holiday started as a day to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in our country's service and was originally called Armistice Day.
