If you were not aware, cockroaches can be harmful to humans. Cockroaches are found in warm and densely populated areas; they contain allergens that can trigger asthma symptoms.
Here are some things Pest World advises you to do to protect yourself and your home:
• Keep the kitchen area clean
• Safely store food in airtight containers
• Seal any cracks and gaps in the house (walls, floors, cabinets, wall outlets, and switch plates)
• Repeatedly run water through all faucets
To be safe, contact a professional pest control company; we are always willing to help!

Fun Fact Friday!
According to Libbie Johson from the University of Florida, immature dragonflies are called naiads! They mostly feed on mosquito larvae. They will molt several times until they become an adult dragonfly, like the ones we see today!

Mother Nature has been giving us a lot of rain this season, that is why you may be seeing a lot of mushrooms in your yard.
Mushrooms are a type of fungi that have strong pathogens and endorphins that protect them from certain conditions. Many will sprout right back up again. Once we get back into the drier season, we will be seeing fewer mushrooms!
To learn more about certain fungi, click the following link.

Centipedes and millipedes are occasional invaders, but many people get the two confused as they look similar. Here are some differences between centipedes and millipedes.

The not-so friendly neighborhood spider is the black widow.
Black widow spiders are mostly black with a red-hourglass shape on their abdomen. Young black widows are orange and white, but as they mature, they will gain their black color.
A black widow's bite can be painful. Its poison can cause muscle aches, nausea, and may even cause difficulty in breathing.
Look for infestation
• Webs- black widows create webs that may appear messy and irregular.
• Egg sac- a silken sac holds the spider's eggs (never break it!)
If you see any black widows in the house, give us a call and we will be happy to help!

You do NOT want bed bugs.
Bed bugs can live in the furniture in your house and they will feed on your blood. If you visit a place that has bed bugs, you have the chance to bring them home with you. Bed bugs are hitchhikers, they can cling to suitcases, backpacks, purses and clothes.
To identify a bed bug:
- Adults that haven't fed are mahogany-colored; fed adults are red-brown. Nymphs will be colorless
- They are flat-oval shaped when unfed. If fed, they will appear swollen
- Has six legs and has antennae
- Adults are 1/4 inches long, while nymphs range between 1.3 millimeters to 5 millimeters
If you find a bed bug, do not wait to call a pest control service.

This video from a friend of David Lynde shows a scary-looking caterpillar, which is known as the giant swallowtail caterpillar. It may look ugly in its caterpillar form; however, it becomes a beautiful butterfly. The giant swallowtail can be found all around the American continent, from Florida to South and Central America, to New England, the Rocky Mountains, and even Canada! In Florida, you will see the giant swallowtail active all year round except for January and February.
According to the University of Florida, the giant swallowtail is very distinct from all other swallowtails, except the critically endangered Schaus’ swallowtail, which is found in South Florida. The difference between the giant and Schaus’ is the Schaus’ tail is all black, while the giant has a yellow-filled tail.
As seen in the video, the giant swallowtail caterpillars’ appearance looks like a bird dropping, but if you look closely, its head looks like a snake.
