For Day Two of National Suicide Prevention Week, we pulled a handful of facts. Some of the facts ground us in what we know today, and others provide hope for the future. We find them equally important ✨💛✨
It’s important now more than ever to protect our mental health, check in with loved ones, and be there to support one another. In honor of National Suicide Prevention Week, Octave Psychologist and Clinic Director, Sean Bell-Thomson, PhD, shares why it’s important to talk about suicide and build awareness of suicide prevention. Stay tuned throughout the week as we take part in the conversation and share efforts you can take to support suicide prevention.
Navigating Loss, a virtual therapy group for grief and bereavement. ✨✨ Hosted by Octave Therapists, Anna Zelig, LCSW, and Kelli Morin, LCSW, this group provides a supportive environment for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Surrounded by those who are facing a similar range of emotions, group members will receive and offer emotional support, explore their feelings, and learn how to navigate grief and loss. Please note, due to licensing requirements, this is only available for residents in the Tri-State area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut).
Our pre-pandemic world was already steeped in diet culture, fatphobia, and healthism, but now many of us are struggling more than ever to find peace within food and our bodies. Join us virtually on October 20 at 5:15pm PT for a free discussion for LGBTQ+ people who want to learn about food and body liberation from a Body Trust® perspective. We’re on a quest to increase access to high quality care because we believe that all people deserve emotional well-being. This shared belief is at the core of what we do, today and everyday. #worldmentalhealthday
We know that it can be hard in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ+) and adjacent communities to find affirming and culturally responsive mental health support. We want you to feel welcome, affirmed, and supported in who you are and what you are experiencing in your life. #OctaveQueerResilienceClinic
We’re excited to announce the launch of a new clinic, the Octave Queer Resilience Clinic. This clinic was designed and inspired by the need for specialized mental health care for queer and trans people. We’ve built a team of therapists who are committed to providing affirming care to queer and trans people of all genders and sexualities. Led by Clinic Director, Dr. Sand Chang, PhD (they/them/their), this team is dedicating their time exclusively to learning and developing expertise on LGBTQ+ issues. We invite you to follow learn more about this specialized care on our website here: https://www.findoctave.com/queer-resilience-clinic
Join us next Tuesday, October 27th at 4:30pm PDT as Megan Murk (NBC-HWC, Head of Coaching) and Traci Corbett (NBC-HWC) host a workshop designed to help navigate the intense emotions surrounding the upcoming election. Our coaches will discuss self-compassion, acceptance, and recognizing the choices we have even during uncertain times. Guided by our framework for Emotional Well-Being, this workshop will be an opportunity for community and connection and allow us to hold space together while also gaining useful tools and skills for navigating challenging emotions. Our Healing Through Connection group launched in August, and has provided a safe and compassionate space for Black people to come together and support one another. We recognize there’s a need to extend this support, so we’re excited to share the group is open for another round of enrollment. ✨✨ Led by Octave Therapist, Cortney Beasley, PsyD, and Founder of @put.in.black, group members will learn how to navigate occasions when it’s harder to find support outside of oneself. This group is held weekly for 12 weeks, and all members of the Black community are welcome. We invite you to learn more at this link: https://www.findoctave.com/groups/healing-through-connection. *Please note, due to licensing requirements, this is only available for CA residents at this time
Meet our Queer Resilience Provider Team ✨✨ “As experienced clinicians working with LGBTQ+ clients, we recognized that many queer and/or trans people find the process of finding an affirming therapist to be frustrating, challenging, and laborious. We envisioned a system in which LGBTQ+ clients would feel comfortable getting support from clinicians who are more familiar and understanding of who they are in the world. At Octave we already had clinicians with a great amount of expertise in this area, so we tapped into their skills and talents to be able to create this offering for the community.” - Sand Chang, PhD, Clinic Director of Octave's Queer Resilience Clinic
