This image demonstrates the normal, textbook version of the ovarian cycle. During the ovulation cycle the hormone changes in the body, specifically estrogen, progesterone, FSH and LH, work to develop and mature a follicle, release an ovum and develop a corpus luteum. All in hopes of being fertilized and sustain a pregnancy.
This is a perfectly organized system that occurs every month in a normally cycling reproductive age woman.
Where can it go wrong?? We will discuss abnormalities in the ovarian cycle in future posts! Best is to understand normal before we can move on to how this cycle can go wrong.

Dr. Skeete is always there for us! She is a phone call away, or physically there to support vaginal birth. When labor was taking longer than the “usual” second baby, Dr. Skeete Henry was called in for backup to evaluate the patient and advocate for vaginal delivery. A common cause of early pregnancy vaginal bleeding may be from a subchorionic hematoma. This is an accumulation of blood that forms between the placenta and outer fetal membrane (chorion) or may be under the placenta itself where the placenta attaches to the endometrial lining. These are commonly detected in viability ultrasounds and generally resolve on their own through vaginal bleeding/ spotting. This can be alarming to a newly pregnant woman. We can evaluate for these sort of findings through ultrasound in office.
