October is here! What are you looking forward to this month?
In honor of Fire Prevention Week, here are 3 tips to help prevent fire: 1. Avoid unattended or careless use of candles. 2. Do not disable smoke or CO detectors. These are life saving devices that will give you an early warning to a life threatening event. 3. Do not leave your cooking unattended. Cooking is the number one cause of residential fires. Unattended cooking increases the chance of a stove top fire. Watch what you heat and never overheat cooking oils.
All homes have the key ingredients needed for mold growth: the presence of mold spores, a surface for it to grow on, oxygen, warmth, and darkness.
Pro Tip: Adjust the vacuum beater brush to proper pile height to agitate just the tips of the carpet fibers and break up soils.
Wooden cutting boards, trash cans, behind the stove (where food crumbs fall) and windows and window sills in the kitchen are like heaven for mold spores. They feed off of these places, so keeping them clean and dry is critical for keeping mold at bay.
Feather dusters make existing dust worse, causing it to settle somewhere else in your home. Damp cloths or furniture wipes work best.
The water extraction step removes the majority of the water from your home or property. By performing thorough water extraction, SERVPRO Franchise Professionals help reduce the drying time and help to prevent mold and secondary water damage.
Wear proper personal protective gear, such as gloves, before touching any burned items in your home.

In the event a pipe does burst, you will want to stop the flow of water immediately. 2. Seal basements and crawl spaces as tightly as possible to keep cold air out. 3. If you have a basement, insulate the walls and repair any broken windows. 4. If you have a crawl space, use vents and doors to eliminate drafts.
