Cardiologist Shadi Tolaymat, MD is Board Certified in Cardiology and Nuclear Cardiology, and practices primarily at Cardiology Clinic of San Antonio’s Medical Center and Westover Hills locations.
Growing up with a number of physicians in his extended family, becoming a physician himself was an obvious choice for Dr. Tolaymat. But the kind of physician he would become is due largely to the impression his uncle, a pediatric nephrologist, left on him at a young age.
"My uncle was always so kind and accessible and never had a patient complaint. If he got paged and had to call the hospital in the evenings or on weekends, even during family functions, he was never short with anyone. He had such an easy personality that even when talking on the phone to strangers you would think he was talking to a friend," says Dr. Tolaymat.
Dr. Tolaymat practices general (invasive) cardiology and performs diagnostic catheterizations - including transradial caths - on his patients with suspected blocked arteries. His patients who undergo a cath through the wrist instead of the groin are often skeptical that the procedure was performed.
Dr. Tolaymat graduated from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 2001. He completed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). Dr. Tolaymat served as an Assistant Professor at UTHSCSA for several years before joining private practice.
