Shahla Rah, MD, FACG, is an experienced board-certified gastroenterologist who provides personalized high-quality care at her Newport Beach, California, gastroenterology practice. Her calm and caring demeanor helps her patients feel more at ease during office visits and procedures.
After graduating with honors from Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, Dr. Rah received postgraduate training in ENT and Surgery in England. She then immigrated to the United States to complete her internal medicine residency at Loyola Medical Center in Chicago, and then relocated to Houston to complete her gastroenterology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine.
Dedicated to providing her patients the best care available, Dr. Rah keeps herself up-to-date with the most innovative tools and techniques and incorporates them into her practice, including the use of capsule endoscopy — a tiny camera patients swallow that generates images of the gastrointestinal tract. Dr. Rah also uses the SmartPill™, which measures gastrointestinal transit time, pH levels, and gut motility.
A firm believer in the power of prevention, Dr. Rah provides nutrition education, as well as a nonsurgical weight loss procedure using the gastric balloon.
She’s also an advocate for colorectal cancer awareness and raised a large donation for the American Cancer Society with her marathon team “Pound the Polyps Cure the Cancer.”
Dr. Rah believes in anti-aging and integrative medicine, and combines complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) practices with conventional medicine. She takes account of the whole person, including all aspects of lifestyle seeing the patient as a whole and not as someone having an isolated disease. She treats the underlying causes of aging and aims at alleviating any age-related ailment. Her goal is to extend the healthy lifespan of patients having youthful characteristics and to achieve the best possible result for the patient.
Dr. Rah is affiliated with Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, California.
Dr. Rah prides herself on her cultural sensitivity, especially with her Middle Eastern female patients, and goes above and beyond to help everyone feel comfortable in her care.
When she’s not helping her patients, Dr. Rah enjoys traveling, spending time with her family, and being outdoors to reconnect with nature by playing golf, tennis, and hiking.
