The VA allows veterans to find out their eligibility for burial in a VA National Cemetery prior to the time of need. The VA calls this "pre-need determination". To apply, complete and submit this form: bit.ly/3ch1Y9S. This greatly reduces stress on surviving family members. Applicants may indicate a preference for a VA national cemetery on the application form, but a pre-need determination of eligibility does not guarantee burial in a specific VA national cemetery or a specific gravesite. VA assigns gravesites in cemeteries with available space once death has occurred and the burial is scheduled.

Tracy Aikin from Grace Hospice is our Heart of Caring Award recipient for the month of October. Tiffany Hager shared the following words about Tracy’s heart of caring: "At 6 pm on 9/14/2020, we received a call from a patient's daughter that they were taking their mother (not the patient) to the hospital in the morning of 9/15/2020 and needed help coordinating staff to be with the patient, their dad, while they were out of the house from 12:30pm-4:30pm. Tracy Aikin, our volunteer coordinator spent time while at home trying to find coverage. In the morning of 9/15/2020, Tracy got right back to work and coordinated coverage between herself and 3 other employees so the family could take their loved one to the hospital, and not stress over their dad being home. Not once did Tracy hesitate or question the need, she jumped into action." As the winner of our Heart of Caring Award, Tracy received a Heart of Caring glass heart, her name inscribed on our Heart of Caring Award plaque, and a $100 American Express gift card. Thank you, Tracy, for everything you do for your patients and their families. We are grateful for all you do! It is Sharp Funeral Home’s pleasure each month to bring special recognition to our area’s hospice caregivers. Do you know a special caregiver? Nominate them today: https://bit.ly/2KE21BK
