Shavano's Hero for November 2020 is Deverly; one of our Medication Aids here at Shavano Park Senior Living! In her short three-month tenure, she has been instrumental in recruiting some of our best caregivers. A native to the Philippines, Deverly is happily married with an 18 year old daughter, Stephany. The family shares an affectionate seven pound Maltese dog. She prides herself in her charity work and clocks many volunteer hours for missionary work; both in her community and surrounding areas, as well as making contributions to her home town in the Philippines. Her desire is to one day visit the land of Israel. Deverly exhibits many of our Culture Keepers, but her number one is "Want to come to work every day"! Deverly puts a smile on the faces of our residents and her fellow co-workers. Congratulations, Deverly, in winning this award; thank you for all you do!! You are AMAZING!

After working for an international airline for 27 years, Yolanda decided to make a career change to be able to spend more time with her daughter. She found the perfect fit in a very rewarding industry helping Seniors and their families, where she has enjoyed every second for the past 13 years. Growing up in South Texas - Rio Grande Valley, her grandparents lived with her and instilled in her at a very young age to care, respect and honor her elders. She is honored to be able to help seniors and their families! Her passions are her family, helping others, and football! She absolutely loves being a Mom. She has an amazing beautiful daughter and 3 amazing beautiful nephews, that when her sister passed away, became her "Boys". She is passionate about her career which, she says "does not feel like a job, but rather a ministry where I have the opportunity to serve every day!"

Kristy studied at Our Lady of the Lake University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology at Texas Woman’s University in 2007. While attending college, she worked in direct care for The Denton State School. She comes to Shavano Park Senior Living with more than eight years of experience with seniors and aduts with developmental disabilities. Kristy also spent several years as an event planner for The Denver Athletic Club. She has a passion for helping others in need, and for sharing the Love of Jesus. In 2016, Kristy became an altruistic living kidney donor. She enjoys spending time with her daughter, laughing and doing “Mommy” things. She chose to work in Senior Living because she enjoys learning from the residents. ~ Kristy, we are elated that you have joined us!!

The FDA has authorized two different COVID-19 vaccines. We’re so excited to be bringing these safe and tested vaccines to our residents and associates. Shavano's Hero for December 2020 is Eloise (Lisa) Hernandez! Lisa is both a Medication Aide and Caregiver in our Generations community. She has graced Shavano Park with her gifts of service, care, laughter, and team-building since February of 2019. She is a model of maturity and certainly leads by example. Lisa humbly credits the residents for teaching her how to care for them, recognize needs and to provide a safe and fun environment in which to live. Lisa is a proud mother of two children. She enjoys hiking, bike riding, and crafts. More notably, Lisa is an 8-year cancer survivor and contributes to cancer awareness and funding to fight the cause. Also noteworthy, she for a time, partnered with the San Antonio Police Department to be a spokesperson for domestic violence and child abuse. Lisa brings to the Team character qualities that can't be taught, they must be brought!! Lisa is a true testament to our culture keeper of "accountability to walking the walk"! Help us congratulate Lisa on this much deserved accomplishment!

We are so excited to share some positive news with you today! There is a light at the end of the tunnel in fighting this virus. Shavano Park Senior Living in Texas is officially the first ISL community to receive the vaccine! The photo below is of Julie McCarty, the community’s Executive Director, receiving her dose.
We’re so excited to be bringing these safe and tested vaccines to our residents and associates. Our incredible staff worked around the clock to enroll our communities in a program with CVS and Walgreens to ensure the vaccine will be available to our associates and residents at on-site clinics conducted in our community. We expect the clinics to be scheduled in the coming weeks, and we will be sure to reach out as soon as we know more.

We rolled out the red carpet for our residents and associates to celebrate receiving the COVID-19 vaccination. We partnered with #CVS to ensure our residents are vaccinated and safe against this terrible virus. We are all ready to get back to some normalcy.
We love and appreciate our Vibrant Life Director (Diana) and our Generations Program Coordinator (Ana). These two ladies consistently create fun ways to give us all smiles for miles. It is an honor to be able to celebrate THEM this week for Activity Professionals week, and it is an absolute blessing to have them a part of our Shavano Park family! We showered them with our love and appreciation with flowers, relaxation gift baskets, a steak lunch prepared by our Awesome Chef Don, and a homemade Tres Leches cake. Thank you Diana and Ana for keeping us all engaged, encouraged and bringing all things Vibrant Life to us. You are both AMAZING!!!

Shavano’s Hero for January 2021 is Ana Lopez. A native of California, Ana has resided in San Antonio for two and half years. January 2021 marked her one-year anniversary at Shavano Park Senior Living. During her tenure, Ana has worked in maintenance, dietary, housekeeping, caregiving, and is currently the Generations Program Coordinator. Ana is a mother of three wonderful boys with whom she enjoys hiking, soccer, and outdoors activities. She appreciates the opportunities of new challenges because she covets learning. She holds family as first importance. Ana aspires to one day write a documentary of her life. Her long-term goal is to become an assisted living director. Ana is the epitome of a team player. She makes the necessary sacrifices to ensure superb customer service for our team, residents and families. Please join us in celebrating Ana and thanking her for her many contributions!
