We will be closed on Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day. We hope you and your family enjoy the holiday! Even though summer is almost over, remember these tips to keep your pet safe:
- Heat kills! Never leave your pet in a car, even for a quick trip! On a sunny 70 degree day, your car can heat up to over 100 degrees in minutes.
- Don’t let your dog drink lake water or river water. Water from the lake and river is often full of bacteria that can cause illness. If there’s a bloom of blue-green algae, your pet could be at risk of liver failure and nervous system damage if they ingest it.
- Even if your pet is on a tick preventative, it’s a good idea to check for these little dudes after being outdoors. They can jump from pets to people and carry nasty illnesses, including Lyme disease.
- Every summer we see dogs get into trouble because they ingest corn cobs. They frequently swallow a big chunk of cob that gets lodged in their intestinal tract and causes a blockage. The moral of the story is obvious: Corn cobs belong in the garbage, well out of paw’s reach!

Hi this is Ann and her dog Chloe, their house burned down. They lost everything but a couple pair of clothes. They are in a hotel, we have raised 2 nights for them, purchased some food for Ann, even got her some Chinese! She is forever grateful & she was crying because she didn’t know what she was going to do. She had nothing, no money, no drivers license, or home. We are trying to get together items by Wednesday night, such as queen sheets, blankets, towels, dishes, silverware, basic home items, nothing huge, pillows, dog items, anything else you may think of! Pick up is Wednesday night! Her doggie will see our vet tomorrow!
She is moving in with family in FL Thursday to start all over 💔 If you’d like to donate to her move you can Venmo - adoptionfirstky or PayPal - adoptionfirstky@gmail.com please note “Ann’” we will be sending her with a truck load hopefully, and several gift cards for along her trip.
Thank you everyone who has helped us help Ann. She loved getting a picture with her dog & asked Jake to get a selfie with her 🖤
Our most recent graduates!! Congrats to Stuart and Ted!!
