Metabolic Monday: What's in a cup? Probably the most common statement we hear from owners is "But he only gets a cup of food!" and then after a little more questioning we find out it's an Eskimo Joe's cup or a Big Gulp/Big Q. 😁 Don't worry, that's what we use too, BUT it's important to know how much food is actually in that "cup"! You might be overfeeding your pet if you don't know what actual measurement your "cup" contains. (Joe's cups hold about 2.5 cups--a Big Gulp/Big Q is not quite 4 cups!!)
Metabolic Monday: Our first tip is that you can't know where to go unless you know where you are! Meaning getting an accurate weight on your pet and having a conversation with your veterinarian about your pet's current weight and ideal weight is a key factor in improving your pet's health. Even though we are still curbside you can bring your pet by anytime and have us weigh them--free of charge!
Was your new year's resolution weight loss (for your pet)?? Are you struggling to know how best to help your furry friend? We're here to help! This month we will be hosting "Metabolic Mondays" where we will share all our tips and tricks for helping your furry friend shed those unwanted pounds! Keep watching our facebook page for more info!
Metabolic Monday: Find it hard to resist those brown eyes at dinner? We understand! Unfortunately a lot of human friendly food isn't all that dog friendly. Did you know onions are toxic to dogs? So are raisins, garlic, and even some nuts! Instead of feeding "people food" try reserving a handful of kibble and giving that instead! That way you're not breaking their diet or risking upset tummies, but they still feel like they're getting something.
Metabolic Monday: Managing your pet's weight isn't just about what they eat, it's about what they do! More exercise (just like with us!) will promote more weight loss in your pet. These don't have to be huge changes, just adding a walk around the block after dinner, or an extra few minutes playing ball can make a big difference in your pets overall health.
It's Metabolic Monday!! I'd like to introduce Miss Minnie! Minnie has a few lbs to lose, and has agreed to check in with us along her weight loss journey! We're so excited to share Metabolic Minnie's journey!!! 😁 Isn't she precious?

Metabolic Monday: Satiation-the state of being satisfactorily full. Anyone who has ever been on a diet knows, this is the hardest thing to achieve right? So how do we help our pets feel full without overfeeding? We have a few quick tricks up our sleeves to help with this. Try adding water to their food---more volume=more full. Canned or fresh green beans in SMALL quantities (look for the single serving cans of NO sodium---or rinse them before serving!)
Have you ever seen such a big handsome floof? 😍For comparison, those are the hospital managers size 10's next to his feet!!
Metabolic Monday: Treats! Everyone likes a treat, even our furry friends, but how to provide treats without providing fat and unwanted calories? There are a couple of different ways to do this. 1) There are special low cal treats that you can purchase from your veterinarian. 2) You can reserve some of their kibble to use as treats, or use their kibble to make new treats. 3) You can make your own healthy snacks, and reduce the amount of kibble you're offering. Weight friendly treat options: raw or cooked carrots in small bite sized pieces, raw or cooked green beans, apples, bananas, or blueberries are all good healthy choices.
