Meet Dr. Hua
Board-certified neurosurgeon Sherwin Hua, MD, is a world-leading pioneer in minimally invasive spine surgery. Dr. Hua developed a revolutionary approach to carrying out spinal surgeries using the smallest possible incisions, known as the DimeSpine technique. Lumbar Fusions are performed through one or two tiny dime-sized incisions. Dr. Hua welcomes patients from Campbell, Hayward, San Francisco, and San Jose, California, to his DimeSpine Neurosurgery practice.
Dr. Hua attended medical school at Northwestern University Honors Program in Evanston and Chicago, Illinois. In addition to his medical degree, Dr. Hua has a PhD from Northwestern’s Neuroscience Institute. He later completed a 7-year combined internship and neurosurgery residency at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He also completed his functional neurosurgery fellowship at Johns Hopkins.
Dr. Hua has more than two decades of busy direct clinical experience treating more than 20,000 patients who have complex brain and spine disorders. Since completing his residency in 2005, Dr. Hua has carried out more than 3,500 surgical procedures in leading hospitals and trauma centers in the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas. In recognition of his excellent service to patients, Dr. Hua was nominated by referring doctors and awarded the TOP DOCTOR award by San Francisco Magazine and Castle Connolly for both 2018 and 2019. Dr. Hua is the only spine surgeon in the South Bay with this honor.
Dr. Hua has published or presented more than 40 research papers. He’s continually striving to improve the outcomes for patients who are undergoing neurosurgery and spine surgery using the latest state-of-the-art technologies. When he finds the current techniques or approaches aren’t providing optimal results, Dr. Hua sets his mind to developing new technologies and methods that will benefit his patients. He is so committed to his patients, Dr. Hua not only treats each patient like family, but he also provides patients with his direct cell phone number should they need him at any time.
