This Is What Happens To Your Body When You Don’t Treat a Muscle Knot — Well+Good
On August 18, 2020, city of Honolulu announced new restrictions on businesses, but has specifically allowed all personal services such as hair, beauty and massage to remain open, with a maximum of five people per store.
For our safety and the safety of our guests we have:
Installed three HEPA Air Purifiers with UV disinfectant lights. One at the reception, one in the hallway ‘tea area,’ and one in the massage room.
Installed a UV Disinfectant oven, for oil bottles, tea cups, cell phones, facial equipment.
Wear a mask during massages
Wash hands for 20 seconds before and after all massages
Wash the oil bottles for 20 seconds before putting them in the disinfectant oven after each use.
So, although we won’t shake your hand we will give you a massage.
It would be a bit annoying to wash hands 20 seconds before and after every hand shake!
Our business is quite slow, so now is the time for a very safe massage.
Caveat: if you are among those who don’t take COVID-19 precautions seriously in your daily life, don’t visit our store.
Our regular fee is $95 per hour for a ‘Just Perfect’ massage in a style of your choice.
Petula and Dennis Miller are providing massages everyday with Elena and Yumiko on call.
We are here in this big beautiful shop in the International Market Place just waiting for a special few who need experienced massage therapy.
And, the slower our business is the safer we are!
Chronic issues and general fatigue can always benefit from a detailed approach to your well being.
Call today for 20% off of a massage from 15 minutes to two hours of pure relaxation.

Massage intrigued me as way to lead a meaningful life.
I felt that a good job is one in which movement is a part of the work that is performed. That pov led me to major in Dance at UH Manoa and to perform with a local modern dance company here in Honolulu. Working as a massage therapist was a perfect fit for my idea of value, which is based on life with a fully functioning body and mind. For example, working as a medical laboratory technician seemed problematic to me, because while examining albumin etc under a microscope can be very important, it does make for a physically stunted 8 hours of time.
I started full time massage work in 1997, and have continued until today, although over the past decade I've performed less massage, and more business management. Now with covid-19, my 2088 sq ft shop doesn't have enough clients for staff, so I'm back to performing massages again. This is like a personal renaissance. I'm rediscovering why I enjoyed massage and why it can be so beneficial for people to receive.
My style includes awareness of John Barnes myo facial release technique, Neural Muscular Relief technique, Trigger Point, Muscle Shortening - Ortho Static Hypo Tension - and somatic therapy. However, I don't focus on any of those techniques. Instead, from Shiatsu, from Lomi-Lomi, from Deep Tissue, from Reflexology, from Lymphatic massage, I've arrived at a generalized flow which is aimed at healing through detailed approaches to general relaxation.
My massage covers a lot of technical bases, without being analytical, or clinical.
Yes, there is a huge amount of pain relief potential, and specific goal accomplishing possible through a physical therapy approach to massage. However, that isn't my style.
Instead of a session with instructions, education, questions, and a methodical approach to technical processes, I've come to realize that a generalized approach which includes first centering myself, and then calmly beginning a detailed focus on muscle attachments, direction of fibers, and repetition of highly beneficial movements, sometimes with ROM (range of motion) + pressure point, sometimes without, that I can produce high value experiences with a high batting average.
What I consider 'high value touch' has a few simple steps. First, the touch cannot be abrupt. Touch should begin before the touch occurs by placing the hands over the body, pausing, then slightly touching, then not pushing, but instead, transferring weight. At first, the weight can be transferred to both hands, usually on either the feet or the low back, to start with. Then, just as we inhale, then exhale, our weight can transfer from left hand to right hand, on opposite sides of the spine, creating a teeter totter sort of contra lateral whole torso stretch and release effect. The rhythmic, soothing application of compression and pressure point Shiatsu style while alternating hands on various regions and points can result in a fully satisfying hour.
Blending the dry, no oil, shiatsu massage with flowing deep tissue or 'appropriate pressure' massage is often the most highly appreciated form.
Some people will want to focus on a certain issue. In those cases, I include that region of the body, and although I'd rather include the opposite side of the body, there are those clients who reject anything other than their request, so, I'm fine with the clients requests to massage on only one side, their painful side. Happily, those people are few! Both I believe in heeding the clients requests, and I hope to bring my tool box to the session. Usually both of those needs match up and I can address the clients requests in my way.
Right now, I'm working out of both of the Shiatsu & Massage Center's International Market Place location, and, Spa Pure in the Courtyard Hotel. The hotel is closed, but we have our own back door. (Spa Pure has the added benefits of our Ganban Yoku Herbal Steam Tables) The market place is open, but without tourists, it is very slow. Which is good for covid safety! The slower it is, the safer I am.
I installed three HEPA Air Purifiers. One at the reception desk, one in the hallway to the room, and a third in the large room - it has two tables, for a couple - in which I work. So, during the massage, we will both be breathing HEPA purified air. All three air purifiers include the internal UV disinfectant light.
I also installed a UV Disinfectant Oven. This is for oil bottles, phones, pens, facial equipment.
With the air purifiers, hand washing, and wearing of masks, and receiving from zero to three clients per day, I'm about as safe as possible. I don't attend gatherings and I eat home cooked food.
I'd appreciate that all of my clients share a respect for covid-19 safety.
If you don't normally wear a mask, and if you are attending social gatherings where people are not wearing masks, then I ask you not to visit my store.
I feel that if everyone would commit to wearing a mask in public, and probably even at home with family members, and, if we simply gave up most social 'gatherings' that the rate of covid-19 would go down, and most business could continue.
I'm available for appointments daily from 11 am to 10 pm!

COVID 19 is very much on our minds. Our rooms have HEPA Air purifiers with UV light to kill viruses in the air. At night we use UV + ozone disinfection lamps for additional peace of mind; the lamps disinfect all surfaces in the room.
As for massage, we offer one price for your uniquely customized blend. Most people favor a blend of shiatsu pressure point with some degree of deep tissue massage. All massages should include reflexology too, imho.
Four of us are available daily 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Park here in the International Market Place.

Covid is still with us. Hopefully our HEPA Air Purifiers and UV + Ozone disinfection lamps are helping to keep us safe. One other effect of the HEPA Air Purifiers is that staff who had allergies now have much fewer symptoms.
Today we did a little massage, and I talked about some of the techniques which make massage more effective.
