With October just a day away and you already notice that it is starting to get darker earlier and earlier; it's a good reminder to remember to maintain your car lights before winter. Once it comes to your safety, properly working lights not only allows you to see the road, they allow others to see you on the road, too!
Here's a few ways to maintain your lights:
Get your car washed: One way to clean your lights; remove dust and debris on the exterior lights by washing your car. The interior of your lights covers should be cleaned as well. Check your vehicle owner’s manual for instructions on how to remove the bulb covers.
CLEAN YOUR LIGHTS: If your headlights are no longer clean, take a trip to your local auto store and pick up some rubbing compound, apply it to the headlights like you would apply wax to your car’s paint, simple wax on and off method works!
REPLACE BOTH LIGHTS: In order to avoid driving with one light that is significantly dimmer than the other one it is recommended that you change both lights at the same times, even if only one light needs to be replaced. When you replace just one failed bulb, it can result in an unbalanced or unpredictable headlight beam, which presents a potential safety risk.
If you feel your lights are just not as bright as they should and have concerns, contact us and we can do a free inspection for you, the last thing you need is to drive with dim lights when it's already dark!
Now that California DMV offices are open for service, car registration extensions are no longer available, so if you're required to pass a Smog Check test in order to renew your vehicle registration but unsure if your car will pass the test or the check engine light is on; there is a chance your car will automatically fail. So how can you get your car ready for the smog inspection? Check out our blog post for tips on how to prepare your car ahead of time to pass the smog check test!

As an essential business our doors have remained open since day 1 and as County of Los Angeles works on the progression of reopening further, should you have any questions or concerns on our day to day COVID-19 protocols don't hesitate to ask, your health and safety matters to us!
It may not look like it or feel like it here in Los Angeles but fall is upon us! The Autumn Equinox is September 22nd and with chances that temperatures will drop, there'll be rain, wet roads and even snow or icy roads depending on where you go -- here's a few things you can do to get your car ready for the fall season:
Check your wiper blades: Windshield wiper blades do wear down with use and age – and even if you have not used them very often, hot, dry weather can actually speed up wear. Inspect your blades regularly, look for discoloration and cracks. Clean them off every month with a damp cloth. Do not use your wipers on a dry windshield which can ruin them and reduce the lifespan of your wipers.
You will notice your wipers are damaged if they are leaving streaky marks, making squeaky noises, have faulty frames, skipping or have splitting marks. Wiper blades typically last 6 months, the fall is a good time to replace them; your new blades will get you through the fall, winter, spring and summer.
Check and change fluids: As temperatures start to drop, car fluids become more viscous, or thicker – which may cause them to move more slowly through the engine. Check your Engine coolant level, the purpose of coolant aka "antifreeze" is to keep your engine from freezing in the winter and to prevent corrosion. In the winter, the ratio of water to coolant should be 40:60 (or 40% water, 60% coolant).
Check your tires- With the possibility of wet roads to come in the fall tire inspection is an important part of car maintenance. The correct tire pressure gives your car the maximum stability it needs and to help with shorter stoping distances. Your tire tread depth condition should be routinely checked and it is recommended you have at least 3/32" of tread. Here's a simple tip for you: Use the old penny trick where you place the penny upside down and you should not be able to see the top of Lincolns head.
.
.
Most of these things you can check in your own driveway but if you have concerns about the safety of your vehicle set up an appt for us to do a thorough, free inspection!

Better gas mileage, reduced emissions, improved acceleration, increased engine life and overall - an improved driving experience are some of the key benefits when your car has a clean air filter.
Generally speaking most factory vehicle maintenance schedules recommend replacing the engine air filters every 12-15K miles, however this is really dependent on how much you drive and the condition of your vehicle.
Driving on dusty roads often can cause filters to get dirty quicker than driving on city streets. The purpose of the engine air filter is to prevent dirt, dust, and other contaminants from entering the engine, over time the air filter becomes dirty and clogged; reducing engine performance and fuel mileage. Engine air filter replacements are typically an inexpensive service item but if you don't replace them (according to schedule) it can cause major problems, including decreasing the life on your engine oil.
The average engine air filter can be replaced for under $30.
Improve your daily drive and schedule a FREE INSPECTION, we'll make sure your car air filter is clean so you can enjoy your commute!
With the average price to purchase a new car $38,000 in the U.S., there's a reason most car owners keep their vehicle for at least 11 years. Intend on keeping your vehicle beyond that? Here are tips to extend the life of your vehicle!

Getting stranded with a dead battery is always an inconvenience and the last thing you want is your headlights shutting off when you're driving at night. We usually remember to change the oil, have tires replaced, but often times battery health is overlooked until it's too late. That's why it's better to replace the battery as soon as it shows signs of aging. Here are a few things to take notice of that it may be time to replace your car battery:
1. The starter motor cranks the engine slowly.
2. Battery/charging warning lamp illuminates on the dashboard.
3. In older models, dim incandescent headlights, particularly when the car is idling, indicate a weak battery.
Has it been a while (over 3 years) since your battery has been replaced or want to make sure your battery can handle the heat on your next road trip or your commute? Contact us to set up a free inspection!

Driving over a pot hole or other object on the road can cause your wheels to become misaligned. Parts in the wheel and suspension can also wear and cause a notable shift while driving. If you're having trouble steering and keeping your vehicle straight on the road it could be time for an alignment.
Symptoms of your car being out of alignment:
- Worn tire treads
- Car pulls to one side
- Steering wheel is crooked when driving straight
- Squealing tires
.
.
Misalignment can shorten
a tire's life by thousands of miles and compromise crucial steering and suspension parts. If you notice one or more of these things happening schedule an appointment with us for a free alignment test, so we can get you back safely on the road!

This Sunday morning we'll be turning our clocks back as Daylight Savings Time comes to an ends. Dusk will be one hour earlier during the peak hours of the evening commute. As winter approaches and darkness falls earlier, commuters will need to turn on their headlights. Before Daylight Savings end, it is important that drivers check the headlights for optimum visibility and safety.
You can start with the interior lights and dash lights, do they all work? Great, move on to the exterior lights:
- Headlights (low beam / high beam)
- Brake lights
- Fog lights
- Signal lights
- And all other exterior lights

If one light is significantly dimmer than the other one it is recommended that you change both lights at the same times, even if only one light needs to be replaced. When you replace just one failed bulb, it can result in an unbalanced or unpredictable headlight beam, which presents a potential safety risk.
If your lights are dim or have broken lights that need to be replaced contact us, we'll take care of you so you're back on the road safely and quickly! Stay safe!

Believe it or not we might see some rain this weekend! Visibility is fundamental to safe driving and your wiper blades play an important role in that.
If you're like most car owners we tend to not think about replacing them until they need to be turned on while you're driving in the rain. Wipers are inexpensive to replace compared to other parts in your car but maintenance is still important and can help extend the life of your wiper blades!

Going on a road trip this Thanksgiving? Between dropping temperatures and surging Covid-19 numbers the last thing you want to happen is for your car to break down while you're on the road in the middle of a pandemic. With Thanksgiving being one of the most popular times to travel it's a good idea to go through this checklist to help ensure vehicle safety and reliability in order to avoid any unscheduled stops. Doing a holiday pre-trip inspection can reduce the chance of unexpected, costly repairs and help to ensure a stress-free road trip.

A well maintained transmission can last 150,000 - 200,000 miles on average and often varies due to driving habits.
Maintaining transmission fluid is not only vital to help avoid transmission failure but is also the least expensive and easiest component to service. The difference of spending $80 a year during a 12 year period vs thousands of dollars if your transmission isnt maintained or inspected.

This time of year the temperature is significantly cooler and nights are longer so besides adding a few heavy sweaters or thicker jackets to your wardrobe don't forget to check your vehicle's antifreeze before winter fully kicks in!
The last thing you want is for your radiator, engine or hose to freeze up resulting in some costly repairs or worse being stranded on the road.
If your car isn't generating enough heat to keep you warm, your antifreeze might be low, or you might have a thermostat problem. This would be a good time to have your cooling system checked out and have the coolant topped off or replaced!

You might not be ready for winter just yet, but your car can be. Checking simple things like if your heater and defrost is working properly would be high on the inspection priority list, along with key items --- brakes, tires, fluids, belts, battery, etc.

With the possibility of a more restrictive 'Stay at Home' order to drop this week if you must travel this holiday season traveling by car may be your safest option.
Having the ability to control your environment more in a car compared to an airport, especially when it's your own vehicle and traveling with people you've been around (i.e. family) can help reduce the risk of contracting coronavirus.
So if you plan on taking to the highways this winter here are some precautions you can take to stay safe during the pandemic:
Disinfect your vehicle - disinfectants w/ at least 70% alcohol are effective in killing coronavirus. Wipe down door handles, dashboards, steering wheel, stereo buttons, vents, cup holders, etc, all high contact spots.
Always practice safe driving- remain alert, don't be anxious, anxiety can lead to driving errors and increase the risk of an accident. Be cautious in parking lots. 1 in 5 accidents happen in parking lots due to distracted driving, avoid texting and driving or making calls and driving. With pedestrians and other cars around its best to keep your guard up.
Plan your trip out - Map out which roadways and states you will pass through, there might be relevant travel advisories you need to be aware of, such as changes to toll collection and rest-area food sales. Call ahead to confirm if any attractions and hotels are open.
Other things to minimize risk while driving - only use public restrooms when absolutely necessary and wash your hands thoroughly;
keep hand sanitizer and mask in your car, sanitize your hands after using the fuel pump at gas stations.
We hope these simple reminders will be useful to keep you healthy and safe. Be well!
Happy Friday to you!
Winter solstice is just 10 days away and with the days getting shorter and shorter to make sure you can still safely see on your commute home or running essential errands later in the day, you'll want to make sure your car lights are in good shape.
Lights require periodic inspection and replacement due to normal wear. Once it comes to your safety, properly working lights not only allow you to see the road, they allow others to see you on the road, too! Car Care Council has some valuable tips to help keep you safe while driving in the winter!
https://www.carcare.org/2020/11/as-days-get-shorter-check-vehicle-lights-wipers/
You may be enjoying lower gas prices at the pump this time of year, but did you know that in the winter fuel becomes less efficient?
Colder weather has an effect and if you take shorter trips (driving in the city vs highway) it can decrease by as much as 12% in the winter.
Engine oil and other fluids become thicker when they are cold, creating more friction inside the car engine and causes it to use more energy. Some other things that can affect your fuel consumption include the use of heated seats, defrosters, and heater fans that demand energy. Tire pressure decreases in the cold and more energy is needed to turn your tires the same number of rotations than is needed in warmer temperatures; and the cold weather makes it harder for your alternator to keep your battery charged.
So how can you improve fuel efficiency in the winter?
- Park your car in a warmer place like a garage if possible.
- Take less trips, planning your route will mean fewer miles traveled, and less gas or energy use.
- Spend less time warming up your car before leaving as possible. Idling wastes gas and your car will warm up quicker while in motion.
- Check your tire pressure regularly.
- Check the grade and type of motor oil in your vehicle. Your engine may need a different motor oil for different seasons. Using the right oil can help reduce wear and risk of damage to your engine in colder temperatures.
- Remove accessories that increase wind resistance, like roof racks, when not in use.
If you're trying to increase your fuel efficiency which will also put some money back in your wallet these tips should help, but if you need more assistance on how to "winterize" your vehicle we are here for you don't hesitate to contact us!

Some interesting news for customers that own Hondas!
Honda has just invented a "car mask" called Kurumask (kuruma means car in Japanese 🚗🇯🇵), a new cabin filter to help protect drivers during the pandemic by removing up to 99.8% airborne coronavirus droplets.
The mask is good for 15,000 miles and roughly costs around $68. Although it is currently available for just one model in Japan (the 'N-Box'), they are looking to ramp up production to make Kurumask available for a variety of models!

For a 2nd year in a row California highways rank 43rd in the nation for overall condition which includes road condition.
Bumpy roads and potholes are often the result of rain, heavy congestion and road maintenance which can result in costly damages to your tires, rims, dents and scratches, even alignment issues!
In order to lessen the damage caused by potholes here's a few precautions you can take while driving and before you hit the road!

Here are some tips that will not only help out on improving your gas mileage but prevent you from spending what's left in your wallet!

With better gas mileage, hybrid vehicles have become increasingly more popular over the last few years (sales increased in 2019 by 17% in the U.S. )and maintenance is just as essential as a regular vehicle in order to keep it running smoothly.
Here are a few tips to keep your hybrid car running:
Routine Engine Check: Hybrid cars are powered by fuel and electricity, which means that the engine is likely to wear out at a slower rate than the traditional car. However, it is essential that you check your engine regularly to avoid expensive repairs. Don't ignore your check engine light.
Check Your Car Fluids: A hybrid vehicle still needs proper oil levels and regular oil changes. If you don’t know how to check this, we recommend contacting us for a complimentary inspection and should include coolant, engine oil, and brake fluid.
Know How the Battery Works: Hybrid cars run on electric power stored in the battery. In colder weather it's important to note it will need warming up before driving out. Maintaining proper battery life begins with using the battery. Make sure you keep a decent charge on it at all times, and never let it drain out.
Check Your Tires: Just like all vehicles, hybrid car tires wear out, too. Maintaining good tire pressure will help you reap the benefits of owning a hybrid car and under inflated or over inflated can compromise the performance of your vehicle.
Check the Brakes: Most brake pads last between 30,000 - 70,000 miles and on hybrid vehicles they tend to last longer due to regenerative braking, which absorb the energy it takes to stop your vehicle and uses it to recharge your battery, however if you come across any issues with your brakes contact us for a free inspection.
In order to get the most out of your hybrid vehicle and to keep it running in top condition, maintenance is key so if you have any questions or concerns about your vehicle, do not hesitate to contact us at 310-323-1824!
In 2020 theft from a vehicle became the most common crime in Los Angeles; (burglaries and stolen vehicles top 2) part of this is due to cars remaining parked on the streets during pandemic stay at home orders and also minimal parking enforcement, which resulted into vehicles being left unattended for long periods of time.
Across the city of Los Angeles catalytic converter theft increased by 138%. Prius, Accord, SUV's and 4-wheel drive trucks have been the most common vehicle targeted.
By state law, the part must be in cars to convert pollutants into less harmful emissions and needed to pass an emissions test.
Thieves want them for their precious metals, including palladium and rhodium and the converters can be sold to scrap metal recyclers for up to a few thousand dollars. Sometimes a new converter can cost $3,000 and not all insurances will cover it.
In addition to parking in a secure spot (garage) or in well lit areas with surveillance cameras, getting your license plate number permanently etched onto the catalytic converter can help discourage thieves from targeting your vehicle because it can provide police with investigative information to identify stolen property and victims and prosecute criminals.
We want to help give you some peace of mind, contact us at 310-323-1824 for a courtesy catalytic converter etching to protect drivers from catalytic converter theft.

Did you catch the few seconds of hail earlier?
This is an important reminder when it rains - the roads are the slickest hours and the next day after the first rain storm!
Keep distance between yourself and the car in front of you, DRIVE SLOW and make sure your wipers are working properly!

As the number of COVID-19 cases decrease and vaccinations distribution increase in many areas, twice as many Americans are driving regularly compared to the start of the pandemic. A recent study by Hankook Tire Gauge Index revealed 66% Americans are driving at least a few times per week, compared to just 31% one year ago. The index also revealed most drivers have not been looking after their vehicles, 70% have not checked tire pressure in the last 30 days, ignoring industry recommendations and 73% have not topped off their fluids.
Spring is just a few days away and as county restrictions get lifted there will be more drivers behind the wheel. Make sure your vehicle is running smoothly so you can stay focused on the road ahead.
