Dr. Shireen Pais graduated from St John’s Medical College in Bangalore, India. She completed her internal medicine training at St Luke-Roosevelt Hospital/Columbia University in New York City. She completed her Fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at University of Southern California and continued to complete an advanced Fellowship in Endoscopic Ultrasound at Indiana University, Indianapolis. Dr. Pais also served as junior faculty during her year at Indiana at the University Hospital and the Roudebush VA. On completion of her training, she served as Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor/Director of Endoscopic Ultrasound at New York Medical College, Westchester Medical Center from 2006 till 2017. She also serves on numerous local and national committees of NYSGE, ACG and ASGE.
Dr. Pais’s clinical interests are in Barrett’s esophagus, pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions of the gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach, small intestine, ampulla, colon, pancreas and bile ducts), pancreatic and biliary diseases. She specializes in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), fine needle aspiration (FNA), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), luminal stent placement (esophagus, gastroduodenal, colonic), endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR), radiofrequency ablation (RFA), enteroscopy and complex polypectomy. Her research focuses on endoscopic sedation, Barrett’s esophagus, esophageal cancer, pancreatic cysts and pancreatic cancers, with a particular interest in early detection, diagnosis and treatment of these lesions. Dr. Pais is also focused on post-surgical complications and bariatric endoscopy. She is currently performing endoscopic suturing, a low-risk alternative to other revision bariatric surgeries that requires no incisions and is done endoscopically.
