Do you recognize this building? It’s been in Brunswick since 1962 when William and Elaine Amato had it built at 560 Pearl Rd, close to Grafton Rd. They then opened Amatos Hair Stylists and rented out the other offices. For ten years Amatos fixed the hair of many Brunswick women and this author had her hair styled there for the prom.
When Amatos sold, the beauty shop was taken over by Villa de Venus so you may remember it by that name. However, by 1973, once again a new name graced the salon, this time Roy Douglas Coiffures.
Other companies rented space at the Amato Building. To name just a few: The Yarnbasket, Jusek Realtor, Pearl View Meats, H&R Block, and Precision Supply Co.
Notice the gas station in the lower right-hand corner. I can’t remember its name so I know somebody can help me out. The gas station is no longer there and in its place was Brunswick Power Equipment but that is now defunct too.
Amatos Salon now houses Shumai Chi Skin Studio. Yes, a lot has changed in every corner or our Brunswick.
