About

Dr. Shweta Desai is a urogynecologist/female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgeon. She is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and board eligible in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Desai believes in educating her patients on the many aspects of pelvic floor disorders and treats each woman with an individualized approach. Having trained for seven years in the Texas Medical Center, Dr. Desai has experience with a diverse patient population and wide range of procedures. Dr. Desai focuses on minimally invasive surgery, offering her patients vaginal, laparoscopic, and robotic surgical approaches. She has extensive experience with both surgical and nonsurgical treatment of a wide array of pelvic floor disorders. She specializes in both native tissue (no mesh) and mesh procedures for the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse. She performs a wide array of urinary incontinence procedures, including mesh midurethral sling placement, native tissue slings, bladder Botox therapy, and sacral neuromodulation. She also specializes in pelvic pain, including vaginal mesh removal, as well as treatment of fecal incontinence and rectovaginal/vesicovaginal fistula repairs.

Dr. Desai is originally from Toledo, Ohio. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis where she graduated with honors. She then returned to her hometown and obtained her medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine where she was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honors Society and named an outstanding student in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas where she was elected administrative chief resident and honored as resident of the year. She then completed an ACGME accredited fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital. Dr. Desai has multiple peer review publications and has presented her research at several national conferences. Through her thesis work in Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS), Dr. Desai spearheaded implementation of a urogynecology specific ERAS program at Houston Methodist with excellent outcomes for her patients. She believes in educating and engaging her patients in the surgical process to allow for a quick and healthy recovery. In addition to her devotion to advancing the field of urogynecology, Dr. Desai is known for her friendly demeanor and welcoming smile. She enjoys being a urogynecologist because she can provide guidance and care for women when they feel most vulnerable. Dr. Desai lives in Atlanta with her husband who is an Atlanta native and Georgia alum (Go Dawgs!). She enjoys spending time with her family, playing tennis, and being active in her community.
