Yesterday we asked: "True or False: You should speak to your child even before they can speak." The correct answer is: True! Babies enjoy making new sounds such as squeals and laughs. They respond to your voice with more sounds and copy the sounds they hear. They learn how to communicate with you even before they can say words. #SignaturePerinatalCenter #Speech

Talk about tiny dancers! Studies have proven that babies are born with an innate sense of rhythm. While they may not be able to bust a move quite yet, research shows that babies have an instinctive ability to respond to the rhythm and tempo of music and may even find it more engaging than speech. #SignaturePerinatalCenter #Babies

From the New York Times: Overall, female obstetricians were 25 percent less likely to do a C-section than male doctors. In studies using criteria like the position of the fetus or the onset of labor, women doctors had lower odds of doing a C-section given the same clinical circumstances. Babies of similar gestational age, for example, were more likely to be delivered by C-section if a male obstetrician was in charge. Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, revealed in a deeply personal essay in the New York Times Opinion section on Wednesday that she had miscarried her second child with Prince Harry in July, bringing light to an experience shared by many grieving families who often suffer in silence. Experts who help grieving parents immediately praised her decision to share her story, saying it would help break a persistent cultural taboo over talking about miscarriages and baby loss. “In the pain of our loss, my husband and I discovered that in a room of 100 women, 10 to 20 of them will have suffered from miscarriage,” Meghan wrote. “Yet despite the staggering commonality of this pain, the conversation remains taboo, riddled with (unwarranted) shame, and perpetuating a cycle of solitary mourning.” NYTIMES.COM Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, Shares Her Miscarriage Grief

Human babies are the only babies that smile at their parents. Research states that babies learn to develop social smiles by the time they are around 6 to 8 months old. This smile is a special milestone as infants will learn to smile to show a gesture of warmth towards the mother. Smiling games are also often used as a bonding technique between a mother and her child. #SignaturePerinatalCenter #Baby

The term “high-risk pregnancy” suggests that in order to have a healthy and successful pregnancy and delivery, extra care is needed. High-Risk Pregnancies aren't talked about a lot. Learn more about them here: https://bit.ly/3a3l6JE #SignaturePerinatalCenter #HighRiskPregnancies
For moms-to-be, eating well at mealtimes is essential, but what you nosh on in between is important, too. Get into the habit of stashing nutritious snacks in all sorts of places — in your pantry and fridge, of course, but also in the car, on the job and in your purse. #SignaturePerinatalCenter #Pregnant #Healthy
One of the most common risk factors for a high-risk pregnancy is the age of the mother-to-be. Women who will be under age 17 or over age 35 when their baby is due are at greater risk of complications than those between their late teens and early 30s. The risk of miscarriage and genetic defects further increases after age 40. #SignaturePerinatalCenter #HighRiskPregnancy
Moms-to-be, enjoy some well-deserved rest time! Downtime not only helps curb early-pregnancy nausea, but it also reduces back pain as your baby grows, lowers your blood pressure, eases headaches and helps you sleep better at night. #SignaturePerinatalCenter #Resting
The bigger your belly, the harder it can be to exercise, so consider the pool a refreshing refuge. A water workout — whether it's swimming laps or taking aqua aerobics — helps relieve aches and pains (especially in the third trimester) and improves circulation and endurance. #SignaturePerinatalCenter #Pregnant

The quickest road to Stress-ville? Having too many to-dos on your list. Pare down by deciding what's a priority (taking care of yourself) and what can wait (or fall by the wayside completely). Instead of shopping for birthday cards and then dragging yourself to the post office to mail them, send an electronic greeting or a cute Facebook post. Only answer essential e-mails on a daily basis — the rest can sit. And find time each week to treat yourself to whatever it is that makes you feel relaxed, whether it's a mani-pedi, a prenatal yoga class, or a movie. #SignaturePerinatalCenter #Relax
You don't have to ditch coffee and soda completely when you're pregnant, but cutting back is a good move. Caffeine and sugar can act as diuretics, washing out important nutrients like calcium before your body has a chance to absorb them. The safest drink of all is H2O — plain or sparkling. #SignaturePerinatalCenter #Healthy

Few things are more frustrating for a new mom than not being able to sleep when everyone else in the house — including baby — has blissfully drifted off into a deep slumber. New mom insomnia, or "momsomnia," is as real as it gets during those hazy post-baby months, and doesn’t discriminate against anyone — even moms blessed with the soundest of sleepers. While finding yourself twiddling your thumbs at 3 a.m. while the rest of your family is passed out is a bit maddening, there is a good reason for it. Basically, thanks to those early months of getting up with baby, you’ve wreaked havoc on your internal clock. And after being woken up multiple times a night by your baby’s cries, you’ve naturally become a lighter sleeper now. Not exactly fair after everything you’ve been through, is it? Since day 1 at her office, I have felt cared for. They always follow up when you have a concern and they take the time to treat you with kindness and compassion. "If I could give Dr. Davidson and her staff 6 stars, I would. They are kind, sincere, efficient, and knowledgeable. They genuinely care about their patients and that was evident from the first time I called their office. I am a high risk pregnancy and I found out I was pregnant early on during the COVID pandemic. I called a minimum of 30 different doctors and nobody would see me. Dr. Davidson was THE ONLY doctor who had compassion on me. She saw me immediately and eased my cares and concerns. Since day 1 at her office, I have felt cared for. They always follow up when you have a concern and they take the time to treat you with kindness and compassion. I never leave the office wondering what is going on with my pregnancy. All of questions and concerns are always addressed and followed up on. If you are looking for a perinatal center to go to, this is it! I’d recommend this place 10,000 times over! I love Dr. Davidson!" -Jennifer #SignaturePerinatalCenter #Review

Babies are born with a “diving reflex” known as bradycardic response, which causes their body to naturally adapt to their surroundings when submerged in water. Bub’s heart rate will slow down and he will instinctively hold his breath when under water. What’s even more incredible is that, like fish, babies can actually breathe and swallow at the same time for the first few months of their life. They learn this talent while in the womb but begin to lose this ability around the 6-month mark. #SignaturePerinatalCenter #Baby
#DidYouKnow: The chances of having twins or other multiple births is greater than ever before. About 3 in every 100 pregnancies in the United States involves twins or triplets. #SignaturePerinatalCenter #Twins
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Omg! This practice is amazing. At first I was nervous but the staff made me so comfortable. Valerie was very warm and sweet. Chelsey was so kind and understanding and Olga was very generous with her information and made me laugh. After meeting Dr. Davis I can see why her staff is amazing. Most exercises are safe to perform during pregnancy, as long as you exercise with caution and do not overdo it. The safest and most productive activities are swimming, brisk walking, indoor stationary cycling, step or elliptical machines, and low-impact aerobics (taught by a certified aerobics instructor). #SignaturePerinatalCenter #Exercise

I remember the defining moment that led me to embark on this journey of pursuing OBGYN. One night while on call with the residents, I participated in several interesting cases that really opened my eyes to the specialty. We operated on a young woman with an ovarian mass that twisted around itself, then proceeded to the postpartum floor to care for a breastfeeding mom who developed a breast infection then returned to the labor and delivery unit to help with the delivery of a baby. I instantly knew this was my calling as I realized I enjoyed the variety and the ability to provide surgical care to patients. #SignaturePerinatalCenter
