Silverado's Memory Catchers program helps families treasure and embrace that which they hold most dear - memories of loved ones. This unique program is included as part of Silverado's compassionate hospice care. Memory Catchers provides the patient an opportunity to share a lifetime of memories and experiences in their own words. Silverado volunteers get to know the patient, then create a video that gives family and friends a timeless record and celebrationof a special and wonderful life.

A very important message from the Silverado Hospice Orange County team!
In this time of unprecedented challenges, we'd like to take a moment to recognize the heroes serving on the frontlines of this crisis providing care to at-risk populations nationwide. Your bravery and selflessness in caring for those who are the most vulnerable to COVID-19 is humbling and heartwarming, and how you have chosen to be present for those who cannot care for themselves is inspiring beyond measure. From all of us at Silverado to all of the care professionals who are making great personal sacrifices to ensure the wellbeing of those who rely on others to survive, thank you.
MESSENGER Silverado Hospice Orange County updated their business hours.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to increase awareness of a horrible disease that affects roughly one in eight American women. From increasing awareness of testing and highlighting promising treatments to finding ways to help those ease the suffering of those afflicted, this observance is important to the countless people whose lives are touched by the disease. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, and Silverado Hospice has extensive firsthand experience caring for those whose lives have been cut short by it. With new cases rising by about 0.3% each year, Silverado Hospice stands with the American Cancer Society in its fight against this terrible disease.
Silverado Hospice recently partnered with Girl Scouts to help bring a little joy to our elderly population. COVID19 has left numerous patients with limited visits from family and friends, leading to depression and lonliness. SIlverado Girl Scout friends wrote letters to patients as a way of giving a long-distance hug. Their simple act of kindness has made a big impact on our patients lives knowing that someone out there cares.
The goal of hospice is to provide comfort at the end of life, which means having a variety of options available to meet each individual’s unique needs. The following are some examples of Silverado Hospice services and programs that represent the types of hospice offerings that can help provide comfortable, dignified passing: •Memory Catchers: A program providing the patient an opportunity to share in a lifetime of memories and experiences for their family. •Essential Oils: A safe, natural way to calm, soothe and increase circulation while helping to reduce the usage of certain medications. •We Honor Veterans: The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s special program created to meet the special hospice needs of those who have served in the military.
Happy Halloween from Silverado Hospice OC! Wishing everyone a safe and happy weekend!
Meet Jillian, one of Silverado’s amazing social workers, as she shares her story on why caring for hospice patients is so dear to her heart. A hospice social worker is an essential member of the hospice team. They are trained, licensed professionals who help both patients and families with psychosocial and emotional support near the end of life. The love and compassion that Jillian provides to each of her patients not only helps them cope and plan for the journey ahead but also gives them a better quality of life.
For the third year in a row, we've earned industry-leading recognition on the Fortune Best Workplaces for Aging Services™ list! After placing 27th in the nation on the 2018 list, our ranking rose to 19th in 2019. This year the trend continued and we placed 6th in the 2020 rankings. This is an incredible honor for us because it ranks the top companies out of the hundreds surveyed, based on hundreds of thousands of employees’ responses. Recognizing veterans and their service is something we consider both an honor and a privilege here at Silverado. Today, we are honored to recognize our residents, patients and associates who have proudly served in the United States military. Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. Over the years we've celebrated the service of many veterans, both through hospice programs such as "We Honor Veterans" and by telling the personal stories of our residents. Please visit silverado.com/veterans to enjoy some of our favorite stories!
