We are very proud to support adaptive sports club Sportables which recently established its sixth official competitive team, the Road Warriors. With our friends at Pedal Power we sponsored their team jersey which was presented on Oct. 5 at The Diamond. The team is led by my good friend Coach Lucille O'Neil and is composed of 10 para cyclists who train weekly. Once we get past the pandemic I look forward to seeing these amazing athletes racing in their new jerseys.

Realizing that the landscape for voting has changed somewhat in Virginia and that there is a lot of confusing information being circulated, I want to share a very simple guide for voting this year that was prepared by the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. It is fair to say that the one thing and perhaps only thing everyone agrees upon is that this election is important so let's all vote (I did last week): http://www.vtla.us/2020/Vote2020.pdf

For a little comic relief, I recently settled a case against the postal service due to a collision with a cyclist. Guess what? The postal service lost the settlement check in the mail. :) In fairness they were very professional to deal with and the check is being resent.
In recognition of the significance of Juneteenth to American history, to our clients, and to all of us at the Silverman Law Firm, we will be closed on June 19, 2020. We wish you a very meaningful Juneteenth.
We've all been taken by storm by Covid 19 especially our friends and family in health care and the more vulnerable members of our community. I want to update you on how Silverman Law Firm is operating and also the impact on the legal system more broadly. Obviously, the health of our clients and staff is paramount followed closely by making sure that our clients' cases proceed without compromise. We know that many of our clients are in a particularly difficult financial position due to Covid 19 and settling their cases is more urgent than ever.
Prior to the first confirmed case in Virginia we started preparing. We have been a paperless office with remote access to our files for several years. We recently updated our computer system to work even better remotely. Last Monday, we tested having everyone work from home to spot any weak links and frankly it worked so well that we have expanded telecommuting. We found, while nothing compares to sitting down with a client, we can handle all aspects of a case without the slightest compromise remotely. This means new clients can "meet" with us even if they cannot leave the house.
What we can not control is the courts. For good reason the courts are continuing all non-urgent matters. This means that most civil cases and hearings set for trial in the next few weeks are being continued to protect the courthouse staff and the public. We support these necessary measures. Odds are they will continue for some time. Other than that we are able to proceed with engaging new clients and negotiating settlements for existing clients.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Most importantly be safe!
