Dr. Simon Fung is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Stein Eye Institute, David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He is an Adult and Pediatric Cornea & Anterior Eye specialist, and his practice focuses on evaluation and management of challeging cornea and external eye disorders in children, adolescents and adults. Examples include corneal opacity and scarring, pediatric cataract and glaucoma, progressive myopia, keratoconus, and other rare eye diseases.
Dr. Fung completed his medical training at the University of Oxford, England in 2006, followed by ophthalmology residency at the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, England, where he was appointed the 2013/14 Chief Resident. After finishing his residency in 2015, Dr Fung undertook a fellowship in adult cornea and external disease at Moorfields Eye Hospital, followed by a second fellowship in pediatric cornea and anterior segment at The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada. In 2018, Dr. Fung joined the faculty of the Stein Eye Institute at UCLA.
Dr. Fung is a medical educator and he currently serves on the Medical Student Education Committee at the Department of Ophthalmology, UCLA. Dr. Fung is also a clinical researcher, who has been invited to multiple national and international conferences to speak about his work, and he is the lead author of multiple articles published in high-impact medical journals.
In addition to his clinical and academic responsibilities, Dr. Fung serves on the committee of the European Society of Ophthalmology Young Ophthalmologists (SOE YO), and the American Academy of Ophthalmology YO International subcommittee.
