How do you determine if the auto repair facility you are using is the best one for you? Easy thing to do is make sure that everything they tell you about a repair is put in writing and priced including fees and taxes. If you have the time it would be a good idea to have a friend who has a mechanical background to review your estimate for fairness and appropriateness. Ask if the shop has a warranty on parts and labor. Is the warranty just at that shop or national? Our shop uses NAPA parts and has a nationwide warranty on all work unless otherwise stated. Ask to have a look around the shop and have explained what types of work the shop does. If they sell tires or repair front end parts, do they have an alignment machine? Our shop has a computerized 4 wheel alignment machine from Snap-On, the number one name in auto repair equipment. If the shop does air conditioning work, ask if they use a recycling machine and do they add dye and oil as needed on each repair. We use a Snap-On refrigerant recycler and add oil and dye as needed. There are many other things you can do but ask to see the used parts and have any repairs being made explained to your satisfaction. Any hesitation should make you reconsider what you are having done and the cost. Your repair shop doesn't have to be your BFF but it won't be a bad thing if you feel you can trust their work and their parts.
