Time for an exam with Dr. Bishop! 🐈🩺 Did you know: vaccinations are a crucial tool to help keep your cat healthy. They help your cat build immunity to protect them against serious infectious diseases, and help to stop the spread of those diseases. As immunity fades over time, it’s really important to administer vaccine boosters to your cat throughout their life, at specific times. By keeping your cat up-to-date on their shots, you’re protecting them from serious, painful, and often fatal diseases. Speak to your veterinarian if you’re not sure whether your cat needs any boosters – they can review your cat’s medical records and confirm their booster due dates. Today is National Pet Obesity Awareness Day! Weight management can be a big problem for pets. Approximately 60% of cats and 55% of dogs in the United States are either overweight or obese. Not only can this impact your pet’s quality of life, making it harder for them to enjoy walks and playtime, but it can also lead to medical issues such as diabetes, pancreatitis and arthritis. Read on to learn more about the risk factors for obesity in pets, and how you can help your pet lose weight safely, if needed. This week is #VeterinaryNurseAppreciationWeek! Their job is vast and challenging – veterinary nurses not only help calm and comfort sick and scared pets, but they’re also phlebotomists, laboratory technicians, radiology technicians, responsible for surgical prep, anesthesia assistants, and the list goes on! Standing beside every good vet is a great nurse, and the best patient care is truly a team effort. Small Door is lucky to have the best of the best! To Jamie, Heidi, Komal and Chi, you are an amazing, intelligent and empathetic group of women. We are so grateful for you every day, but on this week especially, we want to let you know how lucky we are to have you on team Small Door! Happy #NationalCatDay from Small Door! 🧡🐈 Celebrated October 29th annually, this day is the most popular holiday for cats that encourages adoption (and breaks the internet with cuteness!) Cats remind us that just when you think they’ve lost interest in you, they’ll turn around and melt your hearts. When it appears they’re too busy staring out at passing cars, chasing nylon mice, and sending tiny multi-colored balls to their under-the-refrigerator graves, they’ll somehow let you know that their very world revolves around you. Just wait. It’ll happen when you least expect it. Cats have their own timetable. What do you love most about your cat?

Happy #NationalBlackCatDay from one of our beautiful Members Cece! Don’t be superstitious on National Black Cat Day! October 27th celebrates the beauty of these sleek creatures. The day also seeks to raise awareness about the low adoption rates for black cats. This time of year, many black cats may decorate many thresholds for Halloween and windows for spooky decor. However, these felines deserve the love and attention just as much as their tabby equivalents. Old notions have given these furry critters a bad reputation. The day is about turning that reputation around. Their black canine counterparts also face similar adoption problems. So, it’s not all about myth and mystery. However, increasing support for the black feline’s plight is the goal of this companion holiday!

Meet Olive, a 2 month old Ragdoll kitten and new Small Door member! Ragdoll cats are probably best known for their silky, white-colored fur and bright, blue eyes, but there's much more to these gorgeous kitties than their good looks. Often referred to as "lap cats," Ragdolls have super sweet, friendly personalities that make them a favorite among families and cat fanciers alike. Some Ragdoll owners even describe them as "dog-like" because they're so playful, affectionate, and cuddly.
