Beings it's all about our hygienists this month, we are going to explain some of what they do for us every single day!
So we begin with everyone's favorite 😉 x-rays!
Dental hygienists will let the patient know of any possible areas of concern, one of these concerns being bone loss. They will also notify the patient if they are concerned about possible gingivitis (inflamed gums) or periodontal disease (loss of supporting bone).
NOTE: dental hygienists cannot diagnose. They leave that to the dentists. 😀

The 2020 #MoonOrthoPumpkinContest has started and it's time to VOTE! Our first entry is a great one and there are more to come!
Just like last year, each of our participating dental practices has chosen a charity they want to support and Moon Orthodontics will be awarding a total of $1,000 for the first ($500), second ($300), and third ($200) place pumpkins!

Sound familiar?
This procedure is called probing. Your dental hygienist is taking measurements around your teeth to make sure there hasn't been bone loss throughout the mouth.
As shown in the graphic, 1-3mm is a healthy probe reading and is what the hygienist hopes to find! 😜 4-5mm, there is definitely some inflammation/bone loss. 6mm & above, Houston, we've got a problem.

“I am native to Kansas and received my degree in Dental Hygiene from Johnson County Community College. I have been a hygienist for 5 years. I also have a Bachelors degree from the University of Kansas in Elementary Education. I have lived in Lawrence the past 12 years and enjoy living by the lake with my husband Jake and our children Emily and Milo. We love being outside together, taking nature walks and going to the lake.”
Dental hygienists tend to get titles like "my teeth cleaning lady"... and they're not wrong!
They work very hard to remove stain, tartar, and whatever else is stuck on/between your chompers!

🦷 Obtain at least 30 hours of continuing education over the course of those 2 years, with at least one of those hours being an Ethics course

We get a lot of questions from parents on what is "normal" for teeth eruption. The answer is... it's hard to determine a normal pattern. Yes, there is an *estimate* on when certain teeth come in, BUT... every child is so different!
