Missouri Senate Republicans aim to limit your 7th Amendment rights in a proposed bill granting legal immunity to healthcare providers, businesses and schools. The bill would shield entities from lawsuits regarding damages from COVID-19. In other words, this legislation would limit your access to the courts, should you or a loved one contract the virus due to someone else’s negligence. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this as it progresses. More on our blog at accidentlawkc.com. Please contact your legislators today. #moleg

"The Missouri legislature is currently discussing liability protection bills. The main measure would protect business owners from lawsuits unless “clear and convincing” evidence shows “recklessness or willful misconduct.” If a business owner posts a sign, the bill says, the customer or client assumes all risk for COVID-19 exposure that may occur on the premises. Smith Mohlman Injury Law February 8 at 2:09 PM · Legislative Alert 🚨 KS SB 151 Contingency fees allow for an individual to retain a lawyer without having to pay up-front. This fee system provides the poor, working, and middle classes the same access to our justice systems as big business and the wealthy. It is also how our firm operates - we believe that people who are dealing with injury, wrongful death and the like should not also have to worry about how they'll afford an attorney. Kansas' SB 151, introduced last week, seeks to cap contingency fees for plaintiffs' attorneys, while putting no limits on the amounts that large, out-of-state corporations can pay their attorneys. We'll be monitoring this closely, and we hope you will do the same. Read the bill at the link below.

Nursing home residents and workers have accounted for roughly 162,000 deaths, or 1 in 3 U.S. COVID-19 deaths.
