Thursday means fresh, local fruit at Solstice Senior Living at Auburn. Residents enjoy farm-to-door delivery of in-season fruit from Machado Orchards. One of our residents was able to inspect the last batch of peaches for the season. We are looking forward to delicious apples in next week’s haul!
Solstice at Auburn recently had new dining room flooring installed in anticipation of the reopening of our grand dining room. Residents took advantage of the temporary open space to participate in a nostalgic carnival shooting range game with Nerf-style poppers. Fun prizes were given out, and our residents can’t wait to play again!

Hammerschlagen (meaning hammer-striking) is a traditional German game played at pubs, gatherings, weddings and of course – Solstice at Auburn’s Oktoberfest! Our game involved a two-way, timed competition to determine who could drive a nail flush into a log the fastest. Edith emerged as our Grand Champion Hammerschlager. Observers and participants enjoyed a variety of German beers and snacks. A special thanks to Cathleen, who provided logs from her wood pile!

Michael is an active member of the Ho-Chunk Nation, a Native American tribe based in Wisconsin. As a special “thank you” to the children of our local health care heroes, Solstice at Auburn staff and residents hosted a Trunk-or-Treat event on Halloween. Our clever community created fun themed trunks containing sweet and healthy treats for our special guests! A festive day was enjoyed by all!
Solstice at Auburn has the honor of displaying a piece of living history in our atrium; a model of the USS Los Angeles, a heavy cruiser which was launched in August of 1944!
Resident John Sommerfield, commissioned the construction of this model, made by Model Ship Masters of Huntington Beach, for display under our Veteran’s Wall of Honor. John served aboard the USS Los Angeles as an Navy Electronic Technician (ET2) in the Korean War. The USS Los Angeles was later converted to a guided-missile cruiser, then scrapped in 1974.

We want to wish a very special happy birthday to our resident Alma! Alma recently celebrated her 102nd birthday. She is originally from San Francisco and moved to Solstice at Auburn to be closer to her family.
Alma spent her birthday with her daughters and shared her secrets to a long life with us, which include taking long walks and having half a glass of wine with dinner. She eats simply, prays often and spends time with her wonderful family.
