The Gold Key Club is a club residents get to join when they refer a friend to our community and that friend chooses Solstice as their new home. Members are invited to participate in special events and activities monthly to thank them for their referral. They also receive $1,500 toward their monthly fees in appreciation. Solstice at Bakersfield is hosting a safe pumpkin tailgate Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 2–4 p.m.! Swing by our community and pick up a pumpkin to take home and carve with family! We will be serving caramel corn and beverages to all our harvesttime attendees to get everyone into the fall spirit. Yesterday, we celebrated a transition to the orange phase (intermediate phase) at our community for tours, visitors and transportation. Our associates were encouraged to dress up in orange for the occasion!

Traditions to Table is a signature program through the Elevate dining experience in which a resident is invited to share a signature recipe with the rest of the community. On Thursday, longtime resident Betty C. was invited into the kitchen to help us recreate her famous Blueberry Buckle. She spent the afternoon in chef’s hat and gloves teaching our team the tricks and tips to make this treat a success. We are so grateful that Betty shared her recipe with the community - it will surely be added to the menu again! #SolsticeEats
Yesterday, we celebrated a transition to the yellow phase at our community for visitors, outings and transportation. Our team was encouraged to dress up for the occasion, and we celebrated with our residents using our “Yellow Only” snack cart. Goodies included bananas, Squirt, Juicy Fruit gum and more!
Solstice at Bakersfield is so excited to be part of the Optimal Cares Halloween Parade route tomorrow with our friends from the Optimal Hospice Foundation. Our residents are looking forward to seeing the classic cars and judging for themselves to see which one is the spookiest of the bunch. Thank you for including our community!
Solstice at Bakersfield recently held our Vibrant Life® and Elevate® Inspires signature event for October! We incorporated our Vibrant Life® program with intergenerational connections and our Elevate® Inspires program with support from local produce vendor Alpha to acquire large pallets of pumpkins. We were able to donate over 70 pumpkins to a local day care center, Childtime Academy. We wanted to provide children a fun opportunity to grab a pumpkin to take home and carve with their families. Our community is connecting intergenerational potential with others who have been affected by social distancing and safety measures during this time. We hope everyone enjoyed the event and their pumpkins!

This weekend, our residents played Halloween Minute To Win It! Each resident had to launch orange pumpkins (pingpong balls) at the cauldron across the room with only a minute to land as many as they could. Our reigning Minute To Win It champion from 2019, James, held the record again this year with 19 orange pumpkins. Our residents had a blast!

Our resident Pete celebrated his 100th birthday last Saturday with the help of his friends at Solstice. Solstice at Bakersfield celebrated Veterans Day the only way we know how – by honoring all our residents and their loved ones who have served in the armed forces! Our community is home to over 30 seniors who served their country and to over 50 spouses of veterans. Yesterday, we showed our appreciation for their service with a car parade hosted with the @Kern County Honor Flight, apple pie, patriotic music and a moment of silence for all of the fallen. Thank you to all of our veterans for their service. We appreciate what you have done for our country!

Solstice at Bakersfield felt the love this Valentine’s Day as our friends from Childtime Academy dropped off 100 handwritten cards from their elementary students. Each message included a picture and was full of hearts and happiness that our residents loved. Thank you so much for thinking of our community and sending the love!

Solstice at Bakersfield “traveled” to Paris last week! Residents and associates enjoyed the laughter and smiles that came from amazing mustache masks. Our community provided a café experience, complete with French coffee, croissants and Parisian jazz! There’s nothing like traveling around from the comfort of your home. Yesterday, our residents were treated to an amazing lunch at Solstice at Bakersfield as we celebrated Mardi Gras. Chris, our Culinary Services director, prepared a special Mardi Gras lunch of gumbo, red beans and rice, and a personal sized King Cake for every resident. Did you know the tradition of the King Cake and its hidden surprise dates back as early as the 12th century in France? What a delicious treat to help us celebrate Mardi Gras and the Fun in France Spirit Week here at our community!

Meet Hina's Home Care & Compounding Pharmacy, one of our community partners! Hina’s Pharmacy administered the COVID-19 vaccine to our residents and associates in February and will be distributing the second dose to our community later this month. Spring Cleaning at Solstice - Solstice Senior Living
St. Patrick’s Day at Solstice at Bakersfield was a blast! Not only did we have delicious corned beef and cabbage, there was also a special performance of classic Irish songs by our Building Services director, Sal.
Solstice at Bakersfield was proud and delighted to host a ‘Taste of Another Culture’ event last Saturday. Our residents not only were able to taste fresh shrimp spring rolls with sweet peanut sauce, but traveled to Vietnam in our Vibrant LifeⓇ Room. This program is hosted weekly to showcase various locations around the world through a visual presentation and an ElevateⓇ dining component. Everyone loved the small street snack, and we are eagerly awaiting our trip to the Middle East on March 27!
Our residents tested their “Minute to Win It” skills this week with a game called “Dice it Up.” We laughed and joked our way through a fun afternoon playing this challenging game! Stay tuned for more “Minute to Win It” magic and ideas with Solstice at Bakersfield.
Yesterday at Solstice at Bakersfield, residents had a chance to make authentic Irish brown bread with our executive director, Christopher. Everyone enjoyed having a chance to bake, measure and stir the bread before sending it off with love to the ovens. Several of our residents used to make their own bread for their families weekly! We’re creating amazing moments to remember and get in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day this week. Stay tuned to see more of our community’s Irish-themed fun!
