Solstice at Joliet celebrated Oktoberfest this year with an Oktoberfest Cart! Our residents enjoyed huge Bavarian pretzels, beer, wine, pop, apple juice and fruit. The residents especially enjoyed the giant pretzels!

Solstice at Joliet celebrated Veterans Day as best we could with the COVID-19 restrictions. A little treat of red- and white-striped mints with patriotic tags was distributed to each of the residents, along with a word search puzzle! There was a reading of the background of Veterans Day, as well as a poem. The veterans who live at Solstice at Joliet were recognized and thanked, and then the residents were invited to participate in a patriotic Solstice sing-along! Thank you, veterans, for your service to our country and for the freedom we have because of your efforts!

We had a Rocking New Year’s Eve party pickup! Residents could treat themselves to a table filled with fruit, desserts, cheese, crackers, wine, champagne, sparkling grape juice, pop and beer, while celebrating the new year. Mariano’s donated bouquets of flowers for residents to take back with them to their apartments, and Devin Starr provided special entertainment on his keyboard! Our residents enjoyed ringing in 2021.
Several residents decided to “kick up their heels” and dance at our wine pickup last week. Residents enjoyed fruit, cheese and crackers, and wine, pop or beer. Everyone had a blast during our fun Friday afternoon activity!

Check out one of our associates having their temperature taken on the Goodview Temperature Scanner! All you have to do is stand in front of the screen and it orally tells you your temperature.
We are excited to share that yesterday our community hosted a vaccine clinic and “licked COVID”! Our residents and staff were overjoyed to receive the vaccine and are hopeful for all that is in store for our community going forward. Everyone received a lollipop after getting their vaccine, and we celebrated all day!

The snow did not keep family and friends from celebrating our resident Loretta D.’s 90th birthday with a drive-through party! Loretta waved to her loved ones from her balcony and enjoyed the fun surprise!
This year, we celebrated Valentine’s Day by visiting each apartment with cookies, chocolates, balloons and a puzzle sheet. A reading about the origins of Valentine’s Day and a poem were read over the PA system in the afternoon, and the residents were reminded that they are loved and appreciated by the entire Solstice family!

Meet Ed Kerfin, our director of Sales and Marketing! Ed has 13 years of experience in senior care and is the co-host of a local radio show, The Friends Over Fifty Show. You can catch him every Friday from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. live on 1340 AM WJOL.
Ed is always striving to help others. He is a former fireman and business owner, and he and his wife, Michelle, operate two local food pantries. There was a lot of excitement at Solstice at Joliet yesterday morning as a huge crane raised a new heating unit to the rooftop of our community. Many of our residents enjoyed watching it happen!
The Winning Wednesday Raffle winner this week was Carol M.! Congratulations to Carol for winning a $5 gift certificate to our Country Store and a Solstice cloth facemask.
Feb. 26 was National Pistachio Day! In honor of the day, residents received pistachios at the wine pickup. Check out the photo of Herb selecting his treats! Since February was Black History Month, we also had a table with photos of famous African Americans throughout history. Maylene S. identified all of them!

Our residents love participating in arts and crafts. Today, they painted flower pots, and they’ll be planting ivy in them in just a few weeks!
Yesterday was an exciting day at Solstice at Joliet because our residents were able to return to the dining room for lunch! They enjoyed catching up with one another and listened to Devin Starr’s music on the baby grand piano. It was a great day!
In honor of National Oreo Cookie Day last Saturday, our residents were treated to Oreo cookies at our community’s Wine Pickup on Friday. Our residents received wine, cheese and crackers, fruit, and chocolate, vanilla and carrot cake Oreo cookies. Yum!
Our residents and associates at Solstice at Joliet received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine last Wednesday! We decorated our dining room to celebrate and enjoyed Orange Crush while “crushing” COVID-19! Our residents also had the opportunity to have their picture taken with the #COVIDCRUSHER picture frame to share with family and friends.

St. Patrick’s Day celebrations began with a party on Monday! Our residents enjoyed special music by Bob Kalal. Refreshments and snacks included St. Patrick’s Day cookies, Irish soda bread, Bailey’s Irish Cream, Green River soda, beer, wine and apple juice. It was a fun time for our community!
On Wednesday, residents were served corned beef, cabbage and parsley potatoes for lunch, and one of our residents, who was dressed in a kilt, recited an Irish benediction. Many residents wore green and had special St. Patrick’s Day headwear. Even our director of Sales and Marketing, Ed Kerfin, dressed up in beads, green glasses and shoes to match!
