We were recently awarded a grant from the Dime Bank Foundation to support South County Home Health Senior Health Workshops for the most vulnerable in Westerly, RI.
This grant will be used to expand South County Home Health (SCHH) senior workshops to all Westerly community patients who use or live in the Senior Centers. The Senior Centers included are: Babcock Village, Canonchet Cliffs I and II, Chestnut Court Apartments, Merchants Village, Saugatucket Springs, and the Westerly Senior Center. The six week workshops include topics such as: Tools for Healthy Living, Chronic Pain Self-Management and Living well with Diabetes.
SCHH is committed to working to eliminate healthcare disparities which still exist for far too many individuals. SCHH has always been a proponent of making health care accessible and its typical location for providing health care interventions is in the patient’s home. SCHH’s goal is to continue serving seniors, residing in low income senior housing, to assist them in the management of chronic health conditions. COVID-19 brought out some real fears in many residents living in a residential senior center. With this grant, SCHH will provide topic-specific workshops and counseling to residents so they are better able to manage their health and reduce anxiety and stress.

Healthy Conversations 10/2/2020 - Living Well with Diabetes
On Monday, September 28, 2020, Dr. Ian Madom, an orthopedic spine surgeon from Ortho Rhode Island, performed the first robotic-assisted interbody complex spine surgery in New England, using the ExcelsiusGPS® system. This robotic technology used at South County Hospital helped Dr. Madom perform a less invasive surgery, use less radiation to place hardware, and gain better alignment during the procedure.

South County Health’s Community Health Team, led by Cassandra Stukus, participated in the ‘Farmers to Families Food Box’ program, delivering food to 50 patients across the Washington County area. This nationwide effort was held locally through the University of Rhode Island, the local distribution site of the USDA program. The RI effort was led by Farm Fresh Rhode Island & RI Community Food Bank. Great job team!
